Re: How come my 1/2” end mill got warm doing this?

Warm cutter is an indication of too high RPM and too low CHIPLOAD. There's a tremendous amount of friction involved in cutting with a spinning bit, which will always generate a lot of heat. If you are cutting enough, the bit will get warm. Heat can also get transferred from the spindle through the ...

Re: GPU question

On laptops with both integrated and separate graphics card, you usually have the option to assign specific GPU's to specific software, usually by right clicking on the desktop and going to the GPU properties. But, if the software won't use it, there's nothing you can do.

Re: Do I need a pause after sending a mn S command?

I doubt that GRBL knows how long to wait, or if it would even wait at all.
Other controls, like Mach3 and UCCNC, have settings for this.

But why does it take 12 seconds for your spindle to get up to speed? I prefer 2-3 seconds.

If you have inside corners, you'll need to radius the corners of the inlay to match the tool radius.

We actually have a $150,000 router at work running XP. But we don't try to run any modern software on it. :D

Re: Just Because You Can. . . . .

I have the opposite complaint. Too many people post pictures that are much too small. I rarely see any that are too large. What I do not enjoy is when I click the pic and it takes quite a while for the picture to load. No, I do not have a slow computer and/or internet connection. Maybe you do have a...

Re: 10.5 and xp

You can buy a new PC with Windows 10 for $150, that will have 50x the power of these old XP machines.

But everyone wants to keep running there $2000 software and $5000 machines with a 15 year old paperweight... :?:

Re: 3D graphics card performance expectations with Aspire

Also, with laptops with both onboard graphics and a separate card, you may need to specify which adapter to use with each software. If you don't force it to use the faster card, it may default to onboard graphics. But it really shouldn't have any difference.

Re: v10.5 upgrade

What did you upgrade from? The main price difference between Desktop and Pro versions is due to the Desktop version being limited to 24"x24", no Nesting, no Gadget support, and some missing toolpath features (Templates, Merging). Most new features are added to all the Vectric lineup. Especially in t...

Re: Spindle recommendations 110v 80mm

I'd recommend getting a 240V outlet installed. A 110V spindle at 5 amps is a lot closer to a 500w spindle than a 2.2Kw spindle, which would normally be 10 amps at 220V.

It looks like he's just changing the settings in GRBL, and it has nothing to do with the Laser Module or the code it outputs.

My suggestion would be to keep saving until he can spend at least 5x what he has now. And even then his budget will be on the low side.

Re: Toolpathing an edge treatment

Is it mounted so that no clamps are interfering with the edges? Yes, you can do it on the CNC, but the preview will not display it properly, because it's an undercut. And, you need to start and end the cut away from the part, so the slot cutter doesn't plunge or lift through the edge of your part. I...

Set up your pulley speeds properly in Mach3.
