Re: speed in air

On the UCCNC forum you said you wanted to slow down the spindle during rapids. But reading this, I see you want to actually slow down the rapids.
To do this, just reduce the Velocity settings in UCCNC for each axis.

Re: Fastest cut speed

When you get into the big italian machines, they kinda have a good, better, and best class.
Good = $150K
Better = $185K
Best = $200K+

The "better" machine have feedrates in the 60-90 meters/min range.

Re: Fastest cut speed

For a given RPM, the faster the feedrate, the longer the tool life will be. (in the vast majority of cases) In a commercial setting, we always cut as fast as possible, with the limit being the quality of the cut, and the ability to hold your parts in place. The only reason to cut slower is to get a ...

Re: Vac Table Top Surface

Your vacuum pumps have a LOT to do with your end results. If you are using vacuum cleaner motors for your pumps, you need to use Trupan, as it flows better.
With big industrial rotary vane pumps, regular MDF works fine. We have two 10HP Becker pumps on a 5x12 table.

Re: Portrait Relief Carving

I havebeen looking with great interest at various YouTube videoe about how to carve a portrait in 3D ((2.5) from a photo. The Photo is converted to greyscale before use, so that the depth of cut is set by the density of the black or white areas Unfortunately, the process is not nearly as simple as ...

Re: i2R-8 lost 0/0 position

From my experience, losing position is far more likely to happen during rapid moves than during cutting.
Without extensive testing, though, it's hard to say what caused the issue.
The first place to look is if mechanical issues are causing binding, or a lack of lubrication.

Re: An Alternative 3D Finish Cut Strategy?

Another thing I'd like to see is to vary the stepover on vertical surfaces (like the option on the moulding toolpath). This would give far superior finish on more vertical surfaces. I'm not sure this is possible using voxels though, which is probably why they haven't done it. One of their competito...

Re: Stars sizing

If you don't see it in the Preview, then it's an issue with the machine, stock, or setup. Perhaps the machine is losing position and cutting deeper?

Would the toolpath just be on the line for whatever depth I want? Well down to what the tool is capable of?
Yes, just a profile toolpath, on the line.

Maybe one of the standalone Chinese controllers? I think they can be had for $200 or less?
