Re: Is Aspire the right Cad program for me?

Aspire will do everything you want to do and more, it's just a matter of familiarity and practice. Your right, you already have some experience with Aspire so don't start over. Pour over the forum as there are plenty of Aspire and VCarve users out there using the software for more than just routing ...

Re: What kind of a price tag can I put on this?

Putting a price of $10 / hr on CNC, or any machine for that matter, is just ludicrous. If someone thought that they were going to start a business and use this type of rate, don't even try, you won't make it through the first week. This is just what happens when someone works with a CNC as a hobby v...

Re: Carved Cedar Screen Door

Gc3 is correct. Odd number laminate lay ups are a standard practice in the industry as the odd layer tends to equalize out the stresses that result from laminating. Look at veneer core plywood, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13 layer and so on or a veneered architectural panel with a core, face veneer and balancing b...

Re: measuring highs and lows

Michael,

I just noticed a picture on your website that looked familiar to me. Did we work on the same church project in Erie Pa last year?? We are the company that did the linen fold millwork panels, etc at the HC ramp.
Am I correct??

Re: Strange behaviour with pockets

Harry,

Attached is a similar pocket using the same toolpathing in v3. When running the simulation you can see the finish profile pass run last. Under the POCKET TOOLPATH menu check to be sure that the Profile Pass is checked as either first or last and not checked off.

Good Luck,

Re: Suggestions for Aspire V4

Russ,

If you have ADD LEADS checked on, the exit lead is checked on by default and uses the same parameters as the entrance lead. Make sure you do not have it unchecked by accident. This should solve your problem nicely.

Good Luck,

Re: Tool shank diameter/cutting diameter/cutting length

Aspire, as far as I can tell, has no means to let me know the cutting depth required, at any particular place on the contour. It only will tell me the maximum depth over the complete surface. The 3d view capability is 'slightly' helpful in viewing this kind of place on a surface, but it's somewhat ...

Re: 3d cut leaving fuzz

We have had the same type of issues with poplar over the years and some works well and others you want to pull your hair out over. For those types of parts we have switched to hard maple exclusively ( although European Beech works even better ) and the results are like night and day. Don't let someo...

Re: SolidWorks STL or other format /another dumb newbee question

Bob, What you are looking for is surface / entity machining characteristics found in programs such as Alphacam or Mastercam where you can indeed select a given surface / entity to machine all by itself. This option is not available with Aspire or many other CNC programs used by the industries that t...

Re: Profile Toolpath That Rasters in the Zaxis?

JP, We just got done doing a similar project and we found that the quickest way was to eliminate the straight line vector and use a rectangle to represent your finshed slot in length and width. Use a Profile Toolpath with tool the same size as the slot, machine Inside Vectors and set Ramps to Spiral...

Re: cove cutting double upside down dish

Strange that the object did not import as it appears to be a clean 3D dxf object. Imports and renders perfectly in Rhino. You should be able to directly import this model into Aspire and use it as is.

Re: Incomplete n. 2 - Medusa by Caravaggio

Gil, The first thing you need to do is seperate the 'snakes' from the others parts. In Aspire you can do it in any number of ways. THe first thing that comes to mind is using the 'Fit Vectors to Bitmap' tool to create the vector shape for the snakes which can then be used to clear the area outside t...

Re: Wine Barrel Slat Engraving

Pete, Just use the top curve of your slat as a vector and perform a two rail sweep over 4.5" rails and you will get the outer profile of your slat. You can then engrave or carve into that surface. Just rememeber to check 'Project toolpath onto 3D model' when toolpathing. Attached image should get yo...

Jim,

I too love Aspire but also use the 'other' software in the box. How do you like the Cabinets Parts Pro??
I also have a pile of useless software collected over the years........the so called 'better mouse traps'...but really pos's.
