Re: Food Safe Staining

Aniline Dye is food safe and toy safe. I use the water soluble, as that is what I have, but I think that you may want to use the alcohol soluble. This is less susceptible to dissolving when it gets wet. You can go on several sites and read about their aniline dyes and recommendations. I use J.E.Mose...

Floor Panel - for retiring Marine

I built this panel to be inset into the floor at the bottom of the stairs. It is 19.5"h X 22"w X 1" thick, made of birds-eye maple, with a hard maple insert that the Grizzly head is engraved into. The grizzly is carved 3/8" into the panel with a 1/4" round over to help prevent tripping and chipping....

Re: Another simple project to clean off your shelves

Thanks for the post.
I have been asked to do some serving trays and been thinking about the process. Looked in here at your post and answered all my questions. Very good process detail and very nice product.
I appreciate the effort on your part.

Thank you
That was just the type of information I was looking for. If it works, I'll post a picture. If I fail, nobody will ever know.
I appreciate the help.

Silver Finish

I saw a piece of oak that had been stained with iron salts and limed to give an almost silver look to the finish.
Few questions
How to do this process?
Where to get the iron salts and lime?
I like the finish but am having trouble locating information on how it is done.
Thanks

Re: Simulated Woodgrain

Well, I don't have any wood grain pic's that I could post, but here is some bark. I took a picture of a pine tree. I run it through Aspire. I can and have made this look exactly like the picture, but it taks too long to carve, so this is smoothed quit abit. But I think it is very good representation...

Re: Web site - marketing

Just a suggestion. Web sites are great. It is like a large portfolio or brochure. People can go look and see what you have done as well as get ideas. I haven't found they sell as well as person to person, but I have had good luck with people looking. When you send out mailings, that is only the firs...

Those are very nice game boards. I have been thinking about doing some boards. I like the way you handled the marbles. Also like the look of your boards. Great job, thanks for posting.
What are the sizes of these boards?

Re: You know you're a CNC Nerd when...

I don't include myself in this group. I have control over my movements and thoughts. But, just incase I need to know?....... What horsepower snowblower? Was the snow heavy or fluffy? How many inches were you covering each pass? Did you go clockwise or counterclockwise? Again, the CNC doesn't control...

Re: Glazing your 3D Carving - A Step by Step Guide

Well this is probably old news now, but I wanted to show my latest project using the techniques I learned here. I made this cutting board out of maple with purple heart edges. Then carved the grapes from the Aspire disc. I then did the cleanup sanding. Applied two coats of sanding sealer. I wanted t...
