so that I get a ramp when the retracted bit reaches the far side of the tab? It only seems logical this would be possible
If a ramp always started on the "far side" of a tab how would the far side of the tab ever get cut vertically?

Re: Taxes

Technically speaking under the “old” rules you were required to self-asses and remit the HST for your digital puchases yourself—or at the very least the GST portion but not the PST portion (I live in a PST/GST split Province so I can’t say for sure). Individuals didn’t hence, I suspect, the rules we...

"Buy the best tool that you can afford when you need it” is generally a good rule of thumb.

Re: How to assign color inside the toolpath

The “dummy” toolpath, for display purposes, that Adrian mentioned could have a depth set to 0.01mm (or 0.001 inches). This is so that the colour of the cut will register but the circle won’t noticebly change thickness.

Re: What is the correct way to cut this shape?

If you are looking for a result such as the deer in this post: https://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php?p=276493#p276493 then you have some work to do making the vectors acceptable for such a cut. If you are happy with something like martindg’s example then you have everything you need. I’d suggest d...

Re: Compairing "add dimensions" to object size

Remember that the object size tab shows the size of an imaginary rectangle around whatever is selected. If the object you are measuring is at a slight angle the sizes will differ when using the dimensions tool.

I wonder if it is a matter of snap-to tolerance not set or not set lose enough?

Re: Mass changes

If it’s a regular grid you could delete all but one circle, resize that, then recreate the grid using the array tool.

Re: How do you create a pocket with angled sides

is it possible to create a square pocket with 90 degrees edges and 90 degree angle corners? Take a straight-walled drinking glass and try to fit it square into the corner of a room. I’ve seen many articles (such as this one http://mathtourist.blogspot.com/2009/08/drilling-square-hole.html?m=1 ) tha...

Short answer: no

Slightly longer answer: all about layers https://docs.vectric.com/docs/V10.5/VCa ... index.html and all about keyboard shortcuts https://docs.vectric.com/docs/V10.5/VCa ... index.html

Re: Toolpath Template Library

VCarve's inability to import an AI file and keep the layers has been an irritant. From Illustrator you can export to a DWG file (version 2018 is great) and that will preserve the layer structure on import.

Re: G-Code Creation

On the export screen you might look for a setting such as:
  • export traces as lines
  • export entities as line width zero (or some other small number)
If either of these are set then disable it. (i.e. no lines, no line width for any entity.)

Re: Pocket Toolpath

If you are using the same tool(s) for both the pocket and the profile paths then really just about the only things that could make the pocket larger are: you've specified a pocket offset. Although I don't suspect this as that offset would need to be negative. you are using a large bit, its step-over...

Re: csv to vcarve pro

I downloaded that gadget years ago but never had a chance to look at it. With the posting of this thread and having had some time to play with it I can foresee getting really into using it. It's going to be especially useful when linked to Rhinoceros 3D's "Grasshopper" parametric visual programming ...
