Re: Walnut branch Owl putzing

It appears that you might not really like your owl... He can have a home here in my house... I wouldn't charge you anything...

Ah, I am really impressed with your work! It's kind of like a signature. You will be remembered by it.

Re: An Alternative to the Bandsaw for Removing Inlay Backing

I used titebond II or III. I think Scott used "super glue" on some of his work.

Re: An Alternative to the Bandsaw for Removing Inlay Backing

I read this thread over one more time and realized that my "glue, glue and more glue" approach may have had an unexpected side effect. The excess glue provides tear out protection when cutting off the male inlay backing. Never thought of it that way before; just noticed that it worked.

Re: An Alternative to the Bandsaw for Removing Inlay Backing

"Hi Paul--Sorry" Absolutely nothing to be sorry about! When I posted the V inlay method, I expected it to evolve far beyond what I could do. I used a radial arm saw to get rid of most of the waste because I had a radial arm saw at hand with an extremely sharp blade. It is sort of like asking someone...

Re: An Alternative to the Bandsaw for Removing Inlay Backing

I used a radial arm saw cutting with width of the kerf each pass. I had to go reasonably slow to avoid tearing out part of the inlay.

Your bit may be "a bit off" in terms of angle. Check this http://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2164.

Re: Vcarve Inlay Issue

From your brief description, I'd suggest checking that the angle of your v bit is correct. As was mentioned before, an image of the problem would be most useful.

Re: ID wood

I also think it is Meranti. Although it is frequently called Philippine mahogany, it isn't really a mahogany. If it is meranti, it is relatively light weight and moderately soft. Quarter sawn pieces will often look like the semi precious gem tiger eye and will change color depending on the viewing a...

Re: My VCarve 8 has S-L-O-W-E-D down

Make sure that you have the latest patches for version 8. If I remember correctly (Which happens less and less often) ... What were we talking about??? Ah yes - slow down. Just after the release of V8 (or V7?) I found a bug that caused a 10:1 slow down in some cases on some computers. The fix was is...

Re: VCarve Inlay help

Since you have had success with other materials, the problem with the fine detail is likely to be due to the detail in the male or female part being chipped out by the V cutter. Five suggestions: 1. Try a sharper (new?) V bit. 2. Reinforce the material before cutting it. Use thin superglue to satura...
