Importing dxf files from Sketchup
New computer. WIndows 11. Sketchup 2024. In the past, I've used an exporting plugin from guitar-list. Not able to find a downloadable version, but it's not supposed to work with 2024, as I understand it. Meanwhile, I cannot get a simple 3D or 2D export with .dxf extension to open in Aspire. A messag...

Re: Importing vectors = thinks I'm opening new file
Again,
I am using shortcut to IMPORT a file, which is: Ctrl+I
Still thinks I'm trying to open a file about 40% of the time.
just don't get it.

Importing vectors = thinks I'm opening new file
Hope title says it all. Over 10 years using Vectric products, full-on Aspire for about 4 years now. This happens usually on the first attempt, but I never get through a session without it at least once or twice. Here's the drill: Working on an existing project, press Ctrl + I , which is the keyboard...

Re: Guitar fret board maker - Aspire 9.5
Okay - finally got it. Thought "details" would display extension. No dice. Found the "show/hide" area in view tab of file explorer. Check "file name extensions" and voila - it registered. I could see where I'd added the .vgadget extension, and the .zip was still showing in front of it. Windows can b...

Re: Guitar fret board maker - Aspire 9.5
Stefan, Thanks for the reply. I completely understand the instructions. However... When downloading is in progress, it shows as a .zip extension. Upon completion, it simply reads Fret_Board_Maker - no shown extension when opened in Downloads folder. So, I add ".vgadget" extension and try anyway. Ope...

Re: Guitar fret board maker - Aspire 9.5
A bit late to the party, but need some help. Absolutely lost on how to install in Aspire. Tried all methods listed in original post on how to install, (unzip, or leave zipped and rename .vgadget) but totally unable to manipulate this into being recognized by Aspire (10.5 - is that the problem??) jeff

10.503 random cutout toolpaths
Installed Aspire 10.5 PLUS all current patches to date.(as of 07-13-20, I'm on 10.503) I now have a file experiencing a never-before problem: Random cutouts are being disregarded in toolpath generation. Closed? - CHECK on proper layer? - CHECK SOLUTION? throw them away, copy the identical vectors fr...

Re: 3D carved molding help
Perfect response - checked out that video, which really opened my eyes to the Vectric paradigm. Thousands of hours in Sketchup has it's methodology burned into my workflow, but seeing the light now in how to approach this in Aspire. End result: Not perfect, but I got it done and am well on my way. J...

3D carved molding help
Drive rail and profile = no problem to generate curve, flat step, then arch. Got it. Problem: I need a classic curled ball type end. Image attached. As a 12+ year user of Sketchup, I can get pretty dang close. Problem is, too many holiday spots while extruding, so I get odd indentations. After 2 day...

Re: From VCPro to Aspire questions
"Joining vectors doesn't create new vectors so they will stay on the layer they already exist on when you join them which is 0 in this case." Your logic is sound, but they do operate differently. In fact, I just tried the exact process in VCPro (still active and operable on my computer), and joining...

Re: From VCPro to Aspire questions
Scott,
I got a long way to go to catch up to you! My screen matched yours, but the keys are different.
" ALT key for rotation Snapping"
AHA! VCP was CTRL. Tried SHIFT and CTRL - lo and behold, ALT key does it.
Nice.
Thanks guys!
Just wish I could get this layer situation working right...

Re: From VCPro to Aspire questions
Well, tried again to be certain. Here's process: 1> select desired layer (.25 holes) 2> import desired vectors 3> verify desired layer is still selected/active 4> Imported layers selected by default, select "Join open vectors" Result: vectors now joined, but still stuck on layer "0" Downloaded 10.01...

Re: From VCPro to Aspire questions
Okay - found the layer indicator at top of page after re-loading and taking another run at it. Not sure how I missed it earlier, as I was scanning menu for any way to trigger on a view of it. Adrian: "If you modify a vector in Aspire or VCarve that leads to a "new" vector being created it wil...

From VCPro to Aspire questions
8 year VCPro (shopbot version) user here- just upgraded to Aspire. Seems mostly intuitive, but have some questions regarding what I was used to, and now morphing to Aspire. Not as smooth as I thought it would be. Specifically: Importing vectors. VCPro: import, select target layer for vectors to land...
