Multi-Sheet Questions

I've started using my newly purchased upgrade to v11 and have some questions about sheets: Is there a way to preview the result of running the toolpaths on all sheets? In the tutorial (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGZ6XRBRaos) there is a mention of seeing the toolpaths for all sheets which works....

Taxes

I just ordered the 10.5 to 11.0 upgrade for VCarve and was charged HST (Canadian version of VAT) of 13% on my order. This is the first time that I've been charged tax on an internet order for electronically distributed software. Why the charge? Insofar as I know Vectric has no Canadian offices. Does...

Re: Vectric V11 Wish list

Agreed that it is probably too late for 11.0
That said, my #1 wish is for adaptive clearing.

Re: San Diego version 11 rumors?

I'm confused. Why would I want to sand the squirrel? Most squirrels have a naturally smooth finish unless you rub their fur the wrong way. BTW, is there a button to select the squirrel's sex?

Re: Thread Milling 1/4"bsp port for watercooling distro plate

I assumed that he would ignore VCarve's calculation of thread depth and choose the correct value. Note that VCarve is extremely limited in calculating the depth of even metric threads. The last I checked it doesn't provide for M12-1.50, M12-1.75 and M12-1.25, for example. Choices are even more limit...

Re: Thread Milling 1/4"bsp port for watercooling distro plate

You wrote "Using a 55 degree tool with that will allow you to create a thread, and male/female parts that match but it would be neither ISO standard nor BSP/Whitworth." It sounds as though the original poster needs the female rather than male thread. Perhaps I'm confused but my understanding is that...

Re: Peck drilling aluminum?

Is the gullet for each tooth a portion of a 5mm circle? If so I would probably use a 4.5mm rather than 2.5mm drill. Use the drill rather than the endmill to remove as much material as possible.

Re: Slow feed rates on curves, fast feed rates on straight routes

I don't know anything about your control software but, assuming that you have the option, you may have "exact stop mode" (G64) enabled. See https://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.6/html/common/User_Concepts.html for more than you probably want to know. Another possibility is that you have many short segments a...

Re: First Experience cutting 6061 Aluminum

I don't want to start an argument about coolant. However, I would like to mention that alcohol is used by many high end industrial machines. For example, Datron (https://www.datron.de/en_gb/datron-cnc-machines/accessories-and-technologies/coolinglubrication-system.html and https://www.youtube.com/wa...

Re: First Experience cutting 6061 Aluminum

I seldom cut anything other than aluminum and plastics such as Delrin. A few comments on my experience: My max spindle RPM is 10000 and that is what I mostly use Securing thin material is very difficult. Approaches that have worked for me include using double sided paper tape (Nitto P-02 works well)...

Re: working with metal

I mostly agree with Leo except for his comment that aluminum is gummy. Yes, pure aluminum is gummy but common alloys such as 6061 and 7075 cut beautifully. A rigid machine, sharp cutters, spindle speeds that wood workers consider slow (typically 10000 rpm) and mist coolant together with an air blast...

Thanks! I wonder when that tool type was added. Does it do anything special other than letting you set the spindle speed correctly?

Diamond Drag

I often use a diamond drag engraving tool to add serial numbers and such to projects. A diamond drag tool doesn't rotate so the spindle speed for it is set to zero. It works great. Ages ago (perhaps VCarve v8?) I added my diamond tool to the tool database and have moved things forward unchanged wit...

Re: Local processing

Like gio14, I also work mostly with metal with some projects in plastic. For both 2.5d and 3d work rest machining and HSM tool paths are two extremely valuable capabilities that are missing from Vectric products. If you need beta testers I will be happy to assist!
