Re: Can I wrap this??

So apart from v9.5 has a serious bug that appears to be fixed in v10, I assume the conclusion is that this cannot be done on a rotary in Vectric?

Thank you.

Re: Can I wrap this??

I redid your model and made sure it has enough triangles, you can download it at: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AtBXEhuw0FKsiINX7ad_UCfu2NJUFQ?e=FcAEfW That was nice of you. I use Sharkcad for all my CAD work and work in solids.. never meshes. I just pumped this into a stl to see what Vcarve would do. I used...

Re: Can I wrap this??

This picture is what I wanted to do.. It's done in other software, but wanted to know if this is possible in VCarve.
Thought by wrapping it may be possible?

mezalick wrote:How about using round stock and milling the flat side??
Because if the radius of the round section is 3mm, then to machine 3mm x 6mm x 3mm flat sides, the round stock would need to be 8.5mm in diameter. Thus, using a round of 6mm diameter doesn't work.

Re: Can I wrap this??

Is this what you were trying to do? No. If you look at the x axis this does not represent the stl object at all... and it seems impossible to apply any meaningful 3D tool paths to it. I understand that because it's wrapped that it cannot machine the flat surfaces... and that's ok... I could use squ...

Can I wrap this??

Nothing I try seems to work, generating a proper tool path...
I have v9.5

Thanks.

Re: Upgrade toVCP10

Thanks Adrian, looks like I will have to cash in a few more Pension cheques before upgrading, I better tune up the pace maker again, got all excited before the big downer. Cheers Nick :( Funny, I feel like that. I understand Vectric cant just give software away and sure people will always complain,...

Re: Multiple Clearance Tools - Coming Soon to Version 10

Yeah, it's good to see restful machining finally included... but I still think Vectric tool paths are seriously lacking.

Re: Set Origin to 3D Model

Maybe I read it wrong as well. I'm in a camper on the lake right now,so probably not paying close enough attention.... Gerry, you read correctly. Offsets dont work because once you move the part your reference point (the stock) is gone. But assume you are doing a simple 2 sided machining, then this...

Set Origin to 3D Model

Except for rotary wrapping I hardly use Vectric anymore; and with the latest update on offer I have been debating why not, and if I will continue with Vectric? I think my main issue as to why I put VCarve on the shelf is the inability to select various points of the 3D model (such as an edge or circ...

Re: Aspire and machining metal ?

It has been my experience, that other than the rigid tapping gcodes (and the related calcs) that virtually all of the items you list as lacking are in the realm of the of the control software, not the cad/cam. I am not by any means defending Vectric's machining abilities as they are low, but your w...

Re: Aspire and machining metal ?

No support for tool changes or tool positioning Can you explain this further? Do you mean something different than what I get with the Automated Tool Changer support? Tool positioning, I mean like a goto command. For example i always like to park the machine at a certain spot and return to that spo...

Re: Aspire and machining metal ?

To add my two cents worth, I only work in metal and run linuxcnc on several machines. The first thing I would say is Aspire/Vcarve have limited in functionality for metal. eg, no coolant flood or coolant mist support. No support for thread tapping. No support for tool changes or tool positioning. No...

Re: CNC Routing/3D Printing

My take is 3D printing is just a gimmick. What can you really do with it? Sure you can get copper, brass, and wood composites, but its still far from the real thing and these are expensive. Nothing compares to something you carved from solid material. Just because you don't have a printer doesn't me...
