Re: Inside Contours Not Cutting To Correct Dimension

Are you sure its a 1/8” endmill and not a 3/32” endmill?

Re: How to cut dovetails joints on your CNC

Thanks 4D and Scott. Its really important to share the how to’s with people on the forum. A lot of people buy these hobby CNC’s and get frustrated trying to figure out other tasks they can use them for. Hopefully Vectric might realize people are using machines and their software like this and start ...

Re: "Harley Saga Tiny" OR "I must be Insane" :)

Scott, First, glad you’re going Green with Greenshots instead of the greenhouse gas producing Screenshot, lol, that tripped my brain for a few seconds! This is an important post. The adage of Garbage in garbage out still exists. With all the power of previewing the cut you are just not going to see ...

Re: How to cut dovetails joints on your CNC

Thanks! I have one of those jigs, it was just limited to the half blind style. I probably only used it once.

Re: How to cut dovetails joints on your CNC

Fixturing Take the variables out of your cut and make a solid fixture. Here is a picture of mine. Two pieces of aluminum extrusion with T-tracks, and one piece of aluminum angle. I attach the top part to the edge of my CNC table, indicate the front face parallel to the X-axis of my machine. Then I ...

Re: How to cut dovetails joints on your CNC

Design tails In designing dovetail cuts in the software, the design must make its concessions to the tool used. In this case I’m using a dovetail bit with a 0.5” major diameter (biggest dia. at the bottom) and an 8-degree side angle (from the center of the tool to the side is 8 degrees) you can pick...

How to cut dovetails joints on your CNC

I’ve made a lot of boxes for people and myself. Some with box joints, most with dovetails, and some with special CNC designed joints. My go to have most recently been the dovetail joint, and I love cutting those by hand, but have done many with my CNC. I see a lot of the paradise design, which is a ...

Re: "Harley Saga Tiny" OR "I must be Insane" :)

Scott, Sounds like you are going to meet your goal, I have done some large scale production parts on my machine, but nothing that took anywhere close to 3.25 hours each. Admire your sticking to your schedule and getting it done. And for some reason, I just only today noticed the date of October 10. ...

Re: Build a model

There is a lobster boat model included with the clipart models that come with Vectric. Of course there is only one view available so If that view doesn’t work it makes sense to create a model.

I have seen gunstocks with less attention to detail. Outstanding work sir!
Thank you! I’ve only done 3 of these and its amazing to see the variations in how the blades are made and shaped where the handle attaches. I have at least on more to do.

Well done!

Scott, I figured right on the bedroom wall so he can see it when he wakes up everyday. Do you think that would be an issue?

Re: New handle for old saw

Here’s my latest carve of a saw handle. First project with Aspire 11 for me. Made this for Richard, we worked together for 30 years. He worked for the company, General Bearing Corporation, for 37 years. I retired the end of 2018. They just closed the doors to the plant (factory and warehouse) July 3...
