Re: Preparing for Carving SKS Stock Replacement
One way that I use a lot on the rotary, to add room for the chuck to grip, is to glue on a square block of cheaper or leftover wood. I use hot melt glue because it is quick to attach and releases easily using isopropyl alcohol. It also makes it easy to set the centreline on the project. I have used ...

Re: Support Pages and Frequently Asked Questions
It looks like the model is positioned such that it does not totally encompass the centreline of the material. Aspire's rotary machining requires that the centreline is completely inside the model. You will have to position the model at an angle as you import it.

The formula is:
(1/stepover) times 360 degrees times the length of the workpiece
1/stepover gives you the number of times the axis turns in one unit of length.

Re: Tiling in Vcarve Pro
When I do a tiling job I choose a point for the split that minimizes any interruption, such as in the clear space between letters. This way the transition is a lot less visible and any differences can be cleaned up easier. To do this make your material a couple inches longer than the 84 and move the...

Re: Offset rotary path
One of the ways it can be done in Aspire is as follows: Start a rotary job with the dimensions of your material (2" diameter by 20"). Create a circle of the diameter of your material (2") and centre it in the workspace by using F9. Create a circle with the diameter of your desired section (1") and p...

Re: first cut on rotary and embedding a pocket
In the header section of your post processor you can add a move to X0 Y0 A0 to ensure the spindle starts in the right place. You could also add the move to the new section part of the post processor so that it goes there after any tool changes. There is a post processor editing guide that should exp...

Re: Long reach bits
When I was still running a router on my cnc, I got metric collets for it from Elaire corp.
They list them for some Makita models here: https://www.elairecorp.com/makitaroutercollets.html
I upgraded to a spindle with er20 collets and wish I had done it earlier.

Re: Simple ARC trick
In the middle of the arc is a grab handle that you can drag to change the arc to one that suits your need, concave or convex.

Re: scaleing a project
When I do natural edge boards, I clamp them down to the spoilboard on my Stinger and then use WinCNC's built in manual trace function. I use the positioning laser on the Stinger to walk around the board and then enter the end and mid points of a series of arcs into WinCNC. They are then saved as a D...

Re: "W" AXIS POST PROCESSOR
Make sure your WinCNC.INI file acknowledges The W axis. It needs to be specified in the AXISCHAR list. You also will need to set up the AXISSPEC for the W axis. Save a backup copy of the .INI file before changing anything. I have found emailing WinCNC to be very helpful in setting up my machine. The...

Re: A mounting boss on a rotary job
Thanks.
I designed a boss in a flat instance of Aspire using a guess for the amount of distortion. I imported this into the wrapped job and re-calculated.
There is still a little undercut but it came close enough to be useful.

A mounting boss on a rotary job
I am making gavel for a customer using a 3D model and the rotary axis. I would like the handle to mount into a round boss or column that is 90 degrees from the rotary axis. Wrapping distorts the column in the direction it is wrapped. I am wrapping X to A so the Y dimension remains straight but the X...

Re: Wood Problem....Have you EVER???...HELP!!
HI Scott I have used TB3 with sanding dust to fill voids many times. I keep containers of sanding dust of various species on hand if I am after a particular colour. It never matches exactly so I usually end up using walnut dust to get a nice organic looking contrast. I mix the dust and glue on a pie...
