Re: Indian head nickel bank
That was also one of my favorite projects. I used the Oreo cookie design cut in mdf to give it texture and painted it black. The center section had rounded edges and painted white for the cream. On one side I substituted Oreo for my grandkids name. All six of them loved them!

Re: Die for debossing into leather
Nice! It's ironic you should post this. I started making my own stamps as well a couple of months back using the same material and had the same results. I do get some fuzzies with very small lettering but once cleaned up they stamp out just fine. I'm currently using a 1 ton arbor press but plan on b...

Re: Knife scales
Thanks Doug. I've been experimenting for quite some time while I've been gathering all of the materials I'll need. It's proving to be another expensive hobby but I enjoy it! I've have created another half dozen textures that I'll use as some point along the way with several different designs. When y...

Knife scales
Somewhere along the way I got sidetracked and gained another obsession, knives. I wondered why can't I create scales using my cnc so I gave it a try with my first knife. I don't make the blades I buy them and assemble them to my liking. I didn't want to screw up a more expensive Damascus blade so I ...

Re: Crochet needle box
Thanks guys. Dwayne, I though the handle would be a nice touch. The little knobs holding the needle were the only thing I didn't make on my cnc. I turned them on my lathe and drilled holes through them. Michael, sorry, that's what I was referring to, the lettering. It was a fingernail paint I used o...

Crochet needle box
In an effort to continue feeding my woodworking habits I occasionally have to feed my wife's habits. She's been collecting crochet needles and asked me if I would make her a box to keep them in so I GRACIOUSLY obliged her. If any of you or your wives collect crochet needles I'm sure you know some of...

Re: Adding a Small Laser to the machine
Sheesh! Now you've got me thinking I need to add one of these instead of buy a standalone unit. Which in my case may not have a large enough area without spending a ton of money. I have two thoughts, which gets me into trouble sometimes. First, set the optimum focal point and set my z clearance heig...

Re: Gallery Of Machines
Search ebay for "80/20 joining plate". You might find something close or one of the vendors may be able to machine one for you from an existing plate.
A few years ago I bought quite a bit of 80/20 extruded aluminum from one of the vendors to build my stock duplicator.

Brian,
Beautiful, work once again.
I live about 2 hours north east of you but if I'm ever close I'd love to stop in and take a peek at your shop and anything you may be working on at the time.

Re: Pricing your services
TReischl, I agree with both of your post. This is a hobby for me which I've invested several thousands of dollars because I enjoy it and I will not let it become a business where it dictates how and when I have to make something. I can appreciate those that do this for a living or try to make a livi...

Absolutely beautiful work! Some dream of creating such beautiful pieces of art while others love to admire it. Some have the ambition to forge ahead while others are content to just wish we had the capability to accomplish it knowing we never will. No need to hide your work, we all love to see what ...

Re: Stopping while running
I have had this happen on occasion when running a long finishing path and it appears that Mach3 has locked up or lost communication with my controller. I see nothing wrong with the code and my computer has everything turned off and it is dedicated strictly to my machine. Even turning the controller ...

Re: VistaCNC pendant ?
Gary,
That's the same unit I use but mine is USB. My machine would almost be impossible to operate without it the way I set my material up. It allows me to walk around my machine and jog to any position on my material. It IS a real time saver.

Re: modelling a hand mirror
Martin, I think the mirror turned out great! I think we both use the same design technique. When I start to design something from scratch I usually have a general idea of what I want, but by the time I'm done it seldom resembles what I initially started out with. I have a tendency to waste a lot of ...
