The finished piece was about 14 x 8 3/4, the board was about 7/8 thick as it came from the lumber yard.

Open Book

The clip art used in the tutorials was the basis for this piece. We gave it to our pastor who liked it so much he placed it on the altar in front of the crèche. It was made on piece of 3/4" cherry. I used a 1/2" straight pit for roughing and a 1/8 BN for finishing. The text was a v-carve toolpath us...

Pen Making

I would like to make a slim-line pen (7mm) and personalize them. I will use a small Nova 2 jaw pen chuck to hold the mandrel. Does anyone have experience doing this? Any suggestions, hints or "does & don't)?

Re: Scaling Weaves and Textures

No I didn't keep the file. I was just working around the new features of the upgrade and had a part about 8 by 24.
It said in the documentation that the weaves are mostly 14" long and the textures are HUGE.
Both will not re-size so I was just wondering.

Scaling Weaves and Textures

It seems that both the weaves and textures in 4.0 are fixed size. Is there a way to manipulate them to fit a specific part

Re: spiral gaget does not work on a taper leg

In order for the taper to work this way you need to have the part parallel to your spindle. So you would have to have way of adjusting the A/axis. On my machine (Legacy Arty) you can do this by lifting the rail to the proper angle.
I hope this helps.

Why not 2 sided Seahorse Corbels

This is a question for Mike Tyler and anyone else After completing the carving I l laminated the two sides this was a bit of a challenge since the shape combined with the slippery glue made registration of of the two pieces a little tricky. The real task was cleanup of the glue hardened fuzzies. Wou...

Re: Speeding up 3D (Wine Cellar Door)

Thanks all, FYI I am using a Legacy Arty 36 and a Bosch router as a spindle. I usually manually set the speed just below the fastest for quarter inch or less bits I reset the rough pass to use a 0.25" EM with a 0.125 pass depth, 50% stepover, 100 IPM feed rate. This reduced the time to a manageable ...

Speeding up 3D (Wine Cellar Door)

I went to set up the sample Wine Cellar Door to modify for my own use and gain some practice. I was shocked that the roughing pass alone would take almost 45 hours!. The finishing pass would take over 7 hours. I have not converted the files to G code but I suspect that there will be little differenc...

Re: Food Safe Staining

It was suggested in another forum that I could use coffee or tea as/a/colorant, After drying finish with mineral oil or beeswax. The finish would not be durable if the thing was actually used it might require frequent treatment but if just decorative it would be fine. If I do this project I'm going ...

Food Safe Staining

I am working on a Cavatelli Maker that was posted on the Woodworkers Guild e-mail projects. I have embellished this by engraving a recipie on the reverse. I would like to stain the V-Carved lettering so it can be read. How can I do that and still make the thing food safe?

Modeling a half hull of a sailboat

Has anyone tried to do a half hull. A friend asked me if I could do this for his sailboat and prematurely I said no problem. As I see it I could trace the outline of the hull and convert it into a 3D model using a vector of the side of the boat, but there are several changes in the angles that chang...

Re: Bit Source

Thanks everyone. I found the Whiteside 1572 Pointed Round Over Router Bit 1/4" R 1/2" D 1/4" SH on sale at Woodcraft. A word of caution, Whiteside does not guarantee the bit against breakage. If you plan to use it a lot maybe order two while they are on sale?
