Re: Opening large stl files
I cut one of those out. It was tricky but do a fresh reboot making sure you have nothing running in the backround and then try. I have an I7 with 32 gigs of ram and it was hit and miss to get it to work. The other advice I can give you is to stick it into another software and decimate the the file t...

Stl size limit into aspire
I have a huge and I mean huge (584mb) stl file and I con't import it in as it says (out of memory). I am wondering what the size limit is. I will try to decimate it but would like to leave it large as possible. Thank you

Re: Christmas Nativity Scene
I made an 8 ft x 8ft one of those for out in front of my parents house. It amazes me the amount of people who come into my store and say they saw it and wonder where they bought it from.

Re: Some questions about topograhical models
I am a chairman of our township and work with my county all the time. They gave me a grayscale height relief of the area from their mapping software. You can just drop that in and set your hieght in aspire peice of cake. At least it should be I'll let you know after I get it all done. There was a ho...

Re: Cub Scouts - Arrow of Light
I'll try to find my picture but I also put coffee cup hangers on the bottom and places a real wood arrow on it. There is bands of color that you can paint to show what activities they completed as WeBeLos.

Re: Lubricant for bits
I learned that the bits dull very fast depending on your spindle speed as well as feed rate. If you are getting dust you are running it to fast. If the outside edge is good it is probably because of the strait lines and faster motion. When you get the Z involved it slows the ipm rate, so you have to...

Re: Sanding 3D Carvings - Radial Bristle Brush
I use the 3m 6" size all the time. They work very well and save tons of time. I have has way better luck with them then the sanding mops. They will sand away your detail if you are not careful. I use the white (120) and the red (220) they can save you hours of hand sanding on a project

Re: one big bird
I don't remembers who bit I used on that one. it was and extra long 1/4" ball nose but it was only 6" long. The halo was added behind the head because that was my trouble spot for depth and that cut it to 5" of drop. Also remember that longer bits do not always help because you only have so much hie...
