It's a hobby machine using chinese 23 oz. Steppers and a gecko 540 with 48v power supply. Are the motors overheating? Any ideas wo...

Tool deflection

Hello I would like to know if there is tooling out there that resist deflection better than others. I get a lot of stair step when I profile to cutout the work from the main piece of wood. I use inexpensive end mills (1/8") that I get off of Ebay. If you have some brand names that would also be grea...

machine travel speed

Hello My cnc travel, once it has lifted up and bound for a new location is the same speed as when it is cutting. I didn't even notice that this was an issue until I noticed that in some u tube videos that their machines picked up speed once it was through cutting and going to new location to cut. I ...

Re: polyurethane finishing

Thanks for the replies I thin out the poly because It settles out the brush strokes and yes it does dry a bit faster as you mentioned. The actual stained finish looks great, it is the act of sanding the poly that I have issues with. I deff agree first coat is rough, but the problem is for me at leas...

working with warped wood

Hello
My carvings are off due to my wood being slightly warped. As the v bit travels From left to right, it cuts deeper into the wood causing undesirable results.
I don't own a planer and aside from surfacing the wood with the cnc, is there any tricks to compensate for this issue.

Thanks
Ken

Re: I need a good 1/4" flat bottom end mill

TReischl That is very interesting, I did not realize the reason for the dish and tapered corners and it makes perfect sense of course. You certainly learn something new everyday. Ok than I guess that best way to address the issue is to find which areas in which this occurs by looking at the tool pat...

Re: I need a good 1/4" flat bottom end mill

Hello The real problem i suppose is that because im clearing the area with a tool that's really just to big, i should just pocket with a smaller diameter tool. The clearing tool would just plunge down once to depth, lift out and than i would change to the smaller diameter tool to finish the balance ...

I need a good 1/4" flat bottom end mill

Hello Another question. I'm looking for a suggestion for a 1/4" end mill that leaves a clean bottom. The ones that I have all leave a small raised circle the size of the bit when it touches down once and than leaves the area. When the smaller diameter bit comes into the area to clean up, it works ar...
