2012 June Workshop

I'd like to thank Robert for the special invitation to attend the June 2012 camp.

This should be an exceptional event with the major emphasis “Hands On". I understand Jamie Oxenham will be showing his special Aspire techniques and some unique texturing using Sophisticated Finishes. I can hardly wait! I'll be giving a demo or two with SN and textures.
It will be an “All Out” learning experience.

For those attending please let me know if there's a specific topic you'd like to cover. I'll try to bring the necessary stuff.

The camp is looking better and better. Diane and I are looking forward to a great time.

We have not had much luck with the various hard coat products for HDU. I would like to see the tricks of working with it on 3D parts. The videos show it being used on a small flat piece "see how easy it is" They never do vertical curved surfaces.

Also sculpting combined with routed parts is of interest.

Hi Joe I'm glad you are going.

We are driving and hope to show up for the entire Thursday session.
Having designed and built my own routers nearly 20 years ago, I don't need lessons on running one. I'm comfortable with the Aspire software so I'm mostly looking for sign design, finishing and fabrication tricks.

Woopie, I'm with you about the computer work.

Dian told me she wanted to find out about woodgraining and sculpt nouveau. I've asked her to bring some Trupan if you have it.

Robert wanted a little help with panel designs and I'd love to throw in some font exercises as well. I have no feeling for how or when. We can start and let others join in. Perhaps Jamie can show us a trick or two with texturing. Robert says he's got it down pat.

Cheers,

I'm also very interested in the cement sculpting process. I think it would be fun to sculpt a big dragon for the shop mascot.

Yow that too. I'm also looking forward to seeing some of the old soldiers again and meeting all the current Vectric users who I've never met. Robert has given me the option to discuss what ever I wanted to. He's leaving the schedule wide open. So I'm not sure where to go. Please look over the following list and give me some suggestions. Here's what I'm thinking:

Designing with Fonts.
Panels and Shapes.
Sculpt Nouveau and Beyond.
Woodgraining with Latex.
Texturing and surface techniques.

I'm only one presenter so it may be necessary to work into the evenings. I enjoy working one on one when possible. I'm also looking forward to joining in as a student and learn more techniques from the other guys.

I'll be flying in, arriving Thursday afternoon if anyone needs a ride.

joe,
my plan now is to work in small groups and rotate the groups between you and jamie. so you can teach all these topics and jamie can teach all of his. in my past camps, the people worked until 11 pm or later. the offical time the class is over is 6 pm, but most of the people kept going. i've seen don help out some of them past 1 am!
in this camp we have alot of top notch talent, we have michael mezalick doing a session on stained glass work, we have sandy baird who is willing to share his creative thinking with the students. and we have don who is a great problem solver.
and in all the camps i've held, we have had some great friendships made. i consider every student who has been here a friend. i still think about the ones who were in my first camp.
so for those wanting to go past 6 pm - no problem.

and right now we have 3 spaces open.

curtis, jamie will be showing how he does 3d modeling. i am not sure how deep he can go in a short time or that my mind will be on the same plane as his (his is above mine in design for sure) but he will at least introduce us to new ideas.

to all signed up - i am putting together a 3d sign the will say " 2012 sign workshop graduate" based on a sign that jamie has designed for me.
so if you cannot come up with a design, you can have me cut this for you. it will have your name on it. i will post it in a day or two.

Joe,

We have some PB hard coat that we can bring along with some substrates. I would like to learn how to work with this cement like material on 3D parts.

what else should we bring?
