Padauk zodiac wheel
Recent cut, came out flawless on my Camaster Stinger.
Did a roughing cut, then a finish pass with a tapered .09 ball nose, took about 3.5 hours total.
Very happy with the level of detail in this one, and of course the padauk is a simply amazing wood. I have 2 coats of matte clear coat on it, and thats it.

Thanks, padauk is just gorgeous, some people I show these to refuse to believe it isn't stained.
Like all woods, some cuts are better than others, this ones got a subtle tiger stripe effect that looks great.
I picked up an 8ft plank of it, 8" wide 3/4, for less than $60, think I'll have to get a couple more of those.
File is a vectorart creation

Re: Padauk zodiac wheel
Since you said you were going to maybe buy more Padauk, I'll just offer the following:
Padauk is extremely photoreactive and will turn a very very dark brown in about a year. The red / orange color will not last. Don't fall in love with it.
Some people are very sensitive to Padauk dust. Increased exposure will increase the number of people having a problem. If you start feeling itchy or your eyes start feeling funny, it's time to find another wood.

Re: Padauk zodiac wheel
I'll enjoy it while it lasts !
All wood changes hues over the years, the more vibrant ones are just the most obvious. It is a former living material that now is not living, so obviously you can expect some changes with that. Much depends on environment/temperature as well. I have year old cut padauk, no visible change as of yet. I'm a big walnut fan, so I'm good with brown, whenever its ready !
No ill affects from padauk dust either. In fact, its dust is generally heavier and finer than most other woods, resulting in less airborne.
Certainly a lot less insidious than MDF, I hate cutting that messy, chemically loaded stuff.
I got a good dust containment system, and am often not even around when making a cut. Out of the 3.5 hours it took to cut, I was there for maybe 45 minutes of that, and much of that during the finish pass, when very little dust is generated or raised ... So I'm not overly concerned about spitting up gooey red globs any time soon.

Re: Padauk zodiac wheel
The looks great and it's good to see that you're cutting out your pieces. Would you mind providing your source of that .09 tappered bullnose?
Thanks
Thanks

These guys are local for me, and I get them straight from the shop.
Super nice owner, every time I have gone there he has given me extra bits to try out for free.
not really a click & order web site though, guess you'd have to dl their catalog or call for pricing.
Really reliable folks, they sell on ebay too.

[not sure they advertise them as .09, thats what my micrometer tells me the tip is]
