BOOMER52 wrote:This is the PREVIEW of my end result of the whole reason I started this journey...! I had a request to combine a PhotoVCarve image onto the same plaque as one I was VCarve'ing. Since I didn't have PhotoVCarve I began playing around with the applications I did have attempting to reproduce a PhotoVCarve effect. By sheer luck I made the breakthrough that we've been discussing above. Now after getting a bit of experience with this technique I feel confident enough to proceed with this and future projects.
This is also going to be an experiment in veneering AND carving through veneer. MDF substrate with a quilted Maple veneer was requested. I've been checking the prices of veneer and given how proud they are of that stuff... I'll NEED to do some testing prior to the project carving.

Hi
How big of a piece of quilted maple veneer do you need. I’m sure I have something that would work for you.

Dan... that's such a generous offer...! Thank you! I've however already pulled the trigger on an order of veneer consisting of
several different specie. I'm dusting off the vac press anticipating my orders arrival. I built one of the Joe Woodworker DIY
Vacuum Presses years ago but haven't used it for a while now... looking forward to incorporating it with the CNC...! http://www.veneersupplies.com/pages/DIY ... Press.html
Played around with the software some more tonight.... and worked up another tutorial.
This time from Blender to Photo VCarve.... let me know if it makes sense and if you can follow it...
I saved all the setup files and would be happy to pass those along to anyone who wants to try this...
Hi Boomer52
You were so willing to share your discovery with the rest of us that I thought I would return the favor. The veneer you see was free and it wouldn’t take much to package up a piece with some lesser quality veneer to run test on. ( well it is still nice stuff, but not as much figure. ) I would have just charged you for shipping.

It is on its way you have
6 pcs of highly figured maple 2 pcs have some color of age on one side, but still good
! pc with the curl running in the opposite direction.
! pc of birdseye
13 pcs for testing, but still not bad veneer.
All pieces are 14 by 16 inches

Thanks Jim....
To date I have pieced together 3 tutorials that are part of a package I am putting together to hopefuly get a teaching position locally. You can see all three below:
Anyone figure out a good tool path for cutting these out? Ive got a half tone file in circles and its taking 6 - 8 pecks with a 60 degree vbit for each circle. im about 3 hours in and its only 50% complete. Its an 18" x 18" piece
Can you use a vbit with a profile toolpath so it will plunge and rotate? Any tips on speeding up the cut time?
I do half tone images with a VCarve toolpath and it doesn't peck like that.
Important thing is to make sure the vectors are clean. They may look like clean circles to the naked eye but, depending on how you generated them, they could have "jaggies" which massively increases the cutting time.
Other thing to check is what pass depth you have set for the tool. If it's a lot shallower than the depth of the holes then you will get a lot of "pecks".
