Need Navy Insignia clip art

Post by Rcnewcomb »

I need to carve some plaques with various US Navy insigia. The images the customer supplied were postage stamp sized and don't look good when enlarged to 8" after I converted them with Adobe Illustrator.

I'm in need to the following:
BM - Boatswain's Mate
CT - Cryptologic Technician
DK: ?
DM: ?
DP: ?
DS: ?
DT: ?
ET - Electronics Technician
EW: ?
FC - Fire Controlman
FT - Fire Control Technician
GM - Gunner's Mate
HM - Hospital Corpsman
IS - Intelligence Specialist
JO: ?
LI: ?
LN - Legalman

Did you convert them to vector graphics first then enlarge? I've started with some small .jpg outlines at 1" x 1" and successfully converted them to vector then enlarged them to 6" x 6" using Corel X3.

Yes, those are the images the customer supplied, but I wasn't able to get a decent conversion to vector art from those small images. :(

I did this from the small .jpg dropped into Corel X3 and exported to a .eps in about 45 seconds. No clean up, no node reduction etc... I just used QuickTrace and then exported.

With a little time, say 5 minutes, I could reduce the node count and easily clean it up.

Edit Notes: Uploaded the correct version, I had my settings wrong on the first export. In this version I spent about a minute making the anchor rope holes round and sharpening some of the anchor points.

Randall,
Try this link. http://www.navy.mil/navydata/ranks/ratings/ratings.html The graphics are still bad but it may help you out. Take note of the notes at the bottom of each page. Some of the rates that you are looking for merged to form one rate. Being ex-Navy I'd love to see the finish product.

Bar Stool with Seat Belts

Post by digitalwoodshop »

I am new here, 1st post. I am a retired Navy Chief, a Fire Control Tech, the Bar Stool with Seat Belts. They combined the FT Guns and FT Missiles together in 1986 when I made Chief. It became FC then.

Interesting reading here. I am waiting to get a Carve Wright soon. This will be a must do first project. Thanks AL digitalwoodshop@aol.com Pocono Digital Woodshop, Shohola, PA
