vcarving celtic weave?

hi all, i seem to remember before the celtic gadget
vcarving weaves.
and i realize the celtic gadget says right on it not for vcarveing.
but i needed a simple celtic rosette, that didnt take long to cut, so i made this from the celtic gadget weave.
i made the 3d weave,then outlined the model, put a box around it and did lil offset lines around the over/under sections.
let me know if theres a easier way ?"

To create the weave pattern you can use just three closed center line vectors and your shape vector. You have an option to adjust the model height percentages to get the lap-over to look the way you like it. The smaller the diameter of your tapered ball nose cutter the sharper the corners will be in your model, though it adds more time to cut. The 3D Finish tool path is created using the square vector, and everything inside the square is carved. There is no need for a Vcarve tool path.

A vector file is attached along with a simulation image of my version. The 3D model version is too big to attach.

thanks carveone.
im interested in vcarving due to it being quick, i have 9 windows to do and at a hour a window for 3d (2 rosettes) its not something i want to do.
your vcarve is a differnt take on mine.
did you offset the center line and then modify it, or make the model and outline it then modify that ?

VCarving those as raised designs looks great people at button shows said.
These were all done on the interior at .05" depth with a 1/8" 60 degree engraving bit with a .015" flat....2 bits(VBit and clearance) never came out quite as good.
Node editing where weaves cross, and different tip flats makes a big difference...as well as the angle of the bit.
Just a thought.

In my first example I deleted all of your vectors and used the" Create boundary around selected components" tool to recreate the vectors. Then I figured out how to node edit and create the three closed vector shapes that are as wide as your shape vector. Once those were created, I created the offset vectors in the middle and deleted the outer vectors. (or something sort of like that)

Then I used the three single line closed vectors with your shape vector to create a new 3D model with 70/30 ratio overlap. My tapered ball nose cutters have a 7.5 degree taper on each side (15 degree included angle) and gives a smooth bottom cut using a raster cut selection.

Looks like you're having fun now. :D

Now convert that to a 3D model to be cut with a tapered ball nose cutter.

One of my favorite things to do is to create more Celtic Knot and other weave designs for my guitar sound holes and Paradise Boxes.

How is this one for a future guitar sound hole?

For fragile carvings like this one in 1/8" wood I would apply a piece of 4 ounce fiberglass cloth and wet it out with thin CA adhesive to the back side to prevent it from braking. I usually do it after cutting the material, then trimming the cloth out of the holes with a new #11 Xacto blade. It can be done as a Vcarving as well.

that looks excellent carveone.
do you make your own knots usually or trace from the net ?
because thats simply complicated one there.
i usually try to offer 2 variations to my carvings, 3d and 2.5 d.
that way i can do cheaper carvings for less money. not much extra money floating around here in this small town, and i use what i make to fund new tools for the shop,
so i can make what i want.
i like to sit down in the morning with a cup of coffee and design something,just to keep the skills working

I do both, but it's easier to start with an image of something I like and modify it to suit what I want to do with it. Cane weave patterns look good on my Paradise Box projects as well as other kinds of weave. A combination of both Vcarved designs and weave patterns make some of my boxes a big hit with the local people who see them.
