VCarve Pro Licensing

Post by Solenberg »

Hi, I am on the verge of buying VCarve Pro but I want to be sure I'm clear on the licensing. I read this on the FAQ page:

"Vectric's license allows any of our software programs to be installed on up to 3 PC's for a single user. If access to any one of the computers is shared with work colleagues, or anyone who is likely
to access the software, then the software must only be installed onto one computer."

I have one computer dedicated to controlling my Shapeoko CNC. I also have a personal laptop, and I sometimes do design work in my spare time on my work computer. No one else at work has access to my work computer. Will I be able to run a fully licensed copy of VCarve Pro on each of my computers? Additionally, My personal laptop will be reaching the end of its useful life before too much longer. Will there be a problem when I need to transfer that copy to my new computer? And at the risk of this being a redundant question, is there any problem transferring a license from one computer to another?

-Jeff

You are correct. As long as you are the only person using the license then you can use it on up to three computers. What you can't do is to use your copy at home while someone else uses it at work for example.

When you come to upgrade your computer you install it on the new one (download the installer from your V&CO account), transfer over any settings (tool database etc) that you want to keep from the old one and then delete it off the old one so you maintain the three licenses in use.

What if you have two broken computers that you can't uninstall the software from? I have had two PCs die from dust overload (I think). I could probably get them working by taking them to a tech store, but is it possible to get the licenses deactivated and get a couple new licenses?

Thanks!

You don't need to deactivate your current licences. Just install on your two new machines.

"I have had two PCs die from dust overload (I think)."

Off topic, but were these control computers in the shop environment?
I had a wheelchair stand Shopbot adapted for me,
and the inner shelf was perfect for me to Unitize with everything including DC so I can move it.

The problem was that the computer and UPS were directly below machine
and near the DustDeputy and Fein.

MC DC after 1 year.jpg
Shopbot guru recommended a Dirtbag or other filter medium;

Almost exactly 6 yrs later now with no problems:)
Checked them every 6 months for first 2 yrs....virtually spotless.
Had to go in twice to check connections on new peripherals...still good! :)
Fein does have HEPA filter, but still a dirty environment.
Just about to buy a new UPS, so I'm going to buy two more.
Just saying it's one solution.

Great tip on the dust cover. I've been worried about the accumulation of dust in mine. Thanks Scott.

I used to have all sorts of problems with dust on my control PC but I switched to a fanless PC a few years ago and have had zero problems since. It's so small it mounts underneath a shelf so there's no chance of dust falling on it and as there's no fans sucking air in it can't get it from anywhere else.

No problem Dan:)

Yes Adrian...only one solution that Brady turned me onto back in the days when the computer was in a closet that was close...peripherals were on a Delta stand I didn't dare move because of USBs pulling out.
Never even Knew what the back of my machine looked like, and I had 7 bits, no UPS...
and an old SCREAMER of a Sears shopvac way back when I screwed things down. :)

Had a backup refurbed Win7 stripped and ready to swap out, but never needed it:)
Just one solution, but my back thanks me every day for my setup now!
Even good when I scooted into the shop without boots on and mangled a big toe...
Wound Clinic SAID no boots/compression socks AND keep foot higher than my heart :D :D
(good use of my monoski crutch ski pole:)
(Of course cleaning the Messy shop took second chair to producing buttons and key fobs:)
