Tiled job with tool changes

Post by rab3rd »

Hello all, first post here. I have a question regarding tool changes and tiled projects. Lets say two tools and three tiles. will the first tile be cut and include a tool change or will all three tiles be cut with tool one, then start over on tile one with tool two?

All tool changes happen for each tile. In your example...2 tools for tile 1, 2 tools for tile 2, and then finally, 2 tools for tile 3.

I would say it would depend on how accurate your positioning is. If it's accurate and repeatable, I would run all 3 tiles with the first tool, and then run all 3 tiles with the second tool.
My reasoning is the DOC variance between tiles, causing additional work to clean it up. If the spoil board and positioning is accurate, the carve will be consistent for each tool change, since the cutter stays static in the collet and the zero remains static.

Yes, all tools for tile 1, then 2, etc.

The scenario that Samson presents is indicative of another issue.

That sounds like a good theory. Might even work.

However there is a huge "IF" in that theory:

"If it's accurate and repeatable..."

Moving work is way less accurate than changing tools and rezeroing on the surface.

If a person is using the caveman technique of touching off tools using a slip of paper, etc, then your theory might work better.
