Problem when combining sweeps

Post by Olle »

I'm trying to combine two sweeps, and it all works like I want it except for one thing: It makes a "perforated" line along the line where the sweeps intersect. The pictures show before and after I change the combine mode, and I have never seen it doing this before. What am I doing wrong?

...seems like I can only attach one picture at a time, so here's the "after" picture. The left component is set to "merge", the right component to "low".

Can you post the file?

Lots of clutter in that model, so here's a file with only those two components.

No, like in the second picture I posted, but without the "perforation". I tweaked one of the sweeps a bit so the components in the file look slightly different in the model, but the problem is the same: A row of holes along the line where the components intersect.

Don't know, it's a display anomaly, creating a finish toolpath it's not there.

No, it's not just the display. I tried to bake the components and smooth it over (see picture), and it made it even more obvious that these are holes. Didn't you see any of this when you opened the file?

I did, but I didn't bake the pieces, I just create a finishing toolpath of the two components.

I believe it's a combination of a pixelation issue of the components and the subtract low property.
I would like to see the vectors you used to create this sweep.
I "removed" a very small slice of the edge of the problem component and the holes disappeared.

That is very strange. My vectors look nice and clean, so I don't understand why this happens. I might just do what you did and shave a few 1/1000" off the edge.

In both files you're only using a small part of the material. Aspire is pixel based so you need to have the material size as close to the size of the model you're creating otherwise you're just wasting pixels with all that empty space and not getting the edge quality you could get.

This is actually just a small part of the whole model, so that empty space will be filled later. In any case, just trimming a bit seems to solve it.

Create parts of the whole model in smaller material sizes to get the best effect, then bring them all together in the larger material area works every time.
