Twisted Candle Holder

Post by SteveNelson46 »

I made a set of candle holders awhile back when I had a Carvewright. The challenge was to make a set on my new machine. This one is a lot smaller and only has two twists. I started off with a 12" 4 by 4 Douglas Fir fence post and rounded the blank to 1.5" in diameter. The base is 3" in diameter and carved separately. It's assembled with a round mortise and tenon. A right twist for a matched set is next.

Love the graceful design which adds to the grain and finish.

Did you use a rotary axis or did you do this as a 4 sided carving and hand carve to clean it up?

Laid out in Aspire as a rotary project and carved on my Camaster ornamental lathe
