Jewelry Cabinet With CNC Elements

Post by BArnold »

I recently finished this jewelry cabinet for my wife after many years of design tweaks. It consists mostly of routine woodworking efforts, but is enhanced with elements designed in VCarve Pro and made on my CNC.

Here's the overall look of the cabinet.

A look from above showing the bow front appearance.

I did the inlay in a two-step process. The top panel is curly maple veneer I re-sawed, then mounted to a substrate of 3/4" plywood. I used a 1/8" end mill to cut the field of the inset and a 60° v-bit for the finish pass to give the edge a bevel.

I used the same 60° v-bit to cut the inlay portion from a veneer of black walnut. By cutting it from its back side, the bevel matched the inset with its face up.

For the drawer and door pulls, I used 3D elements and superimposed the Greek key on them. I used a 1/8" ball nose to shape the pulls and cut the Key with a 1/16" ball nose end mill.

These turned out OK.

The main thing is she is ecstatic about the whole thing!!!

I'll second the WOW!! I'm glad I only check out posts to this forum when my wife isn't able to see them. She'd want me to make one of those for her bling and my list of projects is already a mile long. Thank you for sharing.
