Clearing Waste Area Help
Good afternoon all. I have tried searching with no luck, and it's quite possible I'm not describing my problem the best in the search box. I am trying to engrave a logo (pictured below) and cut away all of the non-logo material so the logo itself and the letter are raised above the rest of the panel. It needs to stay on the piece of wood its getting cut into as the whole piece will be installed to a larger panel after I'm finished with it.
Oh, and I'm using VCarve Desktop if that helps.

As such?
Create a boundary vector, and cut a pocket tool path.

Question on the boundary creation.
Highlight the logo, create the boundary vector or a rubber band. And do you make it big enough to go to the edge of the material to clear everything off that you need to?

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
Just a vector the size & shape you need, if that is to the edge of material then make it that big but if you are cutting the part out then the extra machining is basically wasted time & more mess to clear up

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
For the life of me, I cannot get the boundary and pocket toolpath to cut out all of the waste material allowing the logo to stand "proud" of the remaining material. What am I missing here?

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
You need to select all the vectors for the logo & the boundary vector, once you have selected them all then use the pocket toolpath icon & set up a pocket cut.

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
OK, You all have been awesome with your help. One more question, how do I keep the boundary pocket from hollowing out the actual logo itself?

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
It's all about how you setup the vectors. For the pocket cut you need a vector that surrounds the logo selected and the logo itself selected.
For the profile cutout you need a vector just around the area you want to cut out.
Mark
You need to set the depth on the pocket toolpath to the depth of the pocket you want.

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
Not sure I follow, there is no boundary pocket. There should only be one pocket toolpath, for that pocket toolpath you need to select ALL the vectors, those for your Logo & the boundary vector you have drawn, as Mark has said you need to set the depth of the pocket toolpath to what ever depth you want the Logo to stand proud by
This might help.

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
Check to see that there are no open vectors in the logo.

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
Let me see if I can paint yall a better picture of what's happening
I've done the following so far"
Import JPG image of the logo
Bitmap trace
Create a vector of the logo and engrave to 3MM
Create a circle around the entire logo with plenty of room around it
Profile of circle all the way through the material
Create boundary around the logo and create pocket toolpath to leave 10mm of the stock so it can be installed onto a larger panel and then have epoxy poured around the logo.
Trying to upload pics of the 3D toolpath preview

Re: Clearing Waste Area Help
I'd reverse these two steps. I try to leave objects attached to the material for as long as possible.Joehlson wrote:Profile of circle all the way through the material
