Everyday Stacked Text

Post by dwilli9013 »

Hello all been awhile since I posted anything. Life has thrown a few curves in the past few months so had to step away from the CNC wood side of things for a bit.

The attached is a file I recently cut for a dear friend. Method used was stacked text and a very steady hand painting.
Meterial: Cherry
Finish: Rattle can poly. Acrylic paints on the lettering.
Bits Used: 1/4 large area clearance, 1/16 tapered ball nose finish cut. Very little hand sanding required.
Painting process has a funny story attached. The lettering was originall gold background letters with black foreground letters.
Once delivered found out it was not the colors that my friend cared for. So she was going to bring it back to me for a correction. Well it never showed up and the other night while I was visiting
I asked about it. Well she said she went ahead and painted it herself to the colors she liked. I asked to see it expecting a mess. I was pleasantly impressed with the attached piece. And the amazing thing was this was done right over top the original acrylics with wait for it.......... Fingernail Polish. I was floored and like it much more than my original.
So I am thinking the little woman may need to keep an eye on her nail polish from here on out.

The plaque looks great!

Fingernail polish - ok, that has definitely been filed in my brain for future reference. Brilliant McGyver move by your friend using the "ingredients" she had available!

This looks great!

I have tried to make a design with stacked text. I was able to do it one time and for some reason after that I have not been able to do it again. I continue to had problems. Whats crazy is I don't remember the issues I was having. I closed VCarve Pro and have not used it for about 2 months. I guess I need to go back to the tutorials and start all over.

If anyone has any good tutorials you recommend please let me know.

Thanks,
Susan

Nice looking plaque. Fingernail polish will be great on those small delicate jobs.

VERY nice Dwayne!! And kudos to the Mystery Painter as well:)
Really pretty and pleasing sign!!

Shouldn't be surprised at the fingernail polish...been using it for years to repair wheelchair scratches, and lasts as long as touch-up paint.
Also I WAS surprised when doing some tests on ground minerals for infill, that it's lasted with high sheen and adhesion to Bloodwood as well or better than CA or hardware store epoxy after year and a half in sun. Also still have some nail polish on my dyed concrete floor for last 10 years from a friends toe job and her daughter's "Spill" in Kitchen floor. :)

I've learned my lesson well. You can't please everyone,so you have to please yourself

Thank you all for the kind words. Hoping to be at it a little more now that things in the personal life have settled a bit. Lots of projects on the books as of now. Couple of memorials to do for some loved ones and of course the vday cut.
Here is the link to the Everyday.crvd file on my google drive.

Enjoy and please remember to double check your settings should you choose to run this to make them suitable for your machine.

James created two videos on stacked text and as usual are well done. The basic one is found here...."Stacked text templates" video is in the same area. Enjoy
