I want to engrave an stl-file on a whale tooth and placed the image on the end of a dome in order to make it fit as good as possible to the curves on the tooth. The problem is that I got an unwanted difference in the z-level as you can see in the attached picture. I want the top level to be more plane, not the curves but the z-level from highest to lowest. Are there any ways to fix this problem?

I'm having trouble understanding what are the troublesome areas, and what do you want the finished item to look like. More images may help.

Re: Curved surface question..
The difference from the highest point to the lowest is very high compared to the same points on the whale tooth. This became so after I placed the STL file on top of the imported clip-art dome, so I'm searching for a solution to lower the highest point to a lower level in order to make it fit the level of the whale tooth.Rcnewcomb wrote:I'm having trouble understanding what are the troublesome areas, and what do you want the finished item to look like. Are you trying to adjust the shape of the dome to more closely match the whale tooth?

I think this video may help. The part you are interested in starts at the 7 minute mark: Component Tree Guide
