Lion Sculpture

Post by mezalick »

Greetings All,
I wish everyone a happy , healthy and prosperous New Year.
On this, the last day of 2018 I wanted to share an interesting project I did this past year.
A Lion sculpture for a new recording studio in the New York City area..
The finished project is 42" wide x 46" tall and 3" thick..
Cut out of MDF with the client finishing the item with high gloss gold auto paint...

Well, I hope for more interesting project in the new year..

Best regards,
Michael

Awesome, Lions are one of my favorites.
Wonder how long did that take to cut?
Thanks

I don't remember exactly but it was a couple of hours of cutting.
3" thick with that amount of detail is a lot to cut thru.

Can't tell if it was a glue-up or that back-breaking MUNGO 3" MDF an acquaintance uses for studio 3D's.
IF glue-up, what brand MDF and glue(or is it a Trade Secret like "The blue paint is my magical mystical eye popping peacock blue paint......my own creation.)
from;
viewtopic.php?f=29&t=27678&hilit=dragon

And did you put any finish on it before running the Finish toolpath?
Is that one a model that you can buy at your site, or did customer hold onto rights?

Scott,,
Okay,,here's the inside story.
Glue up of Big Box Store MDF.....Clients request.
I suggested HDU,, but NOOOOO..They wanted it to be heavy.
Glue, the all powerful TiteBond II Premium.
Yes, I did add several coats of my magical elixir before the finish toolpath. ( 50% glue ( as previously mentioned ) and 50% water )
And last but not least...Customers Logo,,,Copyrighted,,not for sale.....Sorry.

Thank You Michael!
Neat and concise....Opposite of me:)
Thanks for the "Magic Mixture"...musta missed that somewhere....but then, an MDF pro I am Not:)
Normally I like TONS of detail....but smooth and graceful sweeps do well too!!:) :)

Amazing work that you do Michael.

Also is amazing what can be done with MDF.

Love the magic glue trick - I need to try that some day
