I've searched for previous posts like this and haven't found an answer, so bear with me.
I'm using VCarvePro v9.5 to create drawings for my new laser install on my CNC. I've been using a regular engraving bit tool to create my gcode and it's working fine. Then, I saw that there is a provision to set an actual Laser engrave "tool", so I set some parameters and saved it. When I go to my drawing, I see the tool in the database when setting up a 'cut', but it doesn't allow me to use the Laser tool. It's in the list but can't be chosen. What am I missing?

Re: Laser in Tool Database
Guessing it's meant to be used with the Laser versions of the software and the new addons coming later that were announced at the UGMs so it won't do anything in the standard versions?
Re: Laser in Tool Database
Vectric mentioned a laser module “coming soon” so I guess that is what it is for. I have mine set up as an end mill currently and it work fine with the quick engrave toolpath. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the laser module to see what functionality it adds.

I had not heard about a 'laser module' coming down the road.Uzumati wrote:Vectric mentioned a laser module “coming soon” so I guess that is what it is for. I've been defining an engraving bit with parameters that are working just fine. I define the 'Flat' of the tool to be the size of the laser point.
When I saw the 'Laser' option when defining a new tool, I thought it would be a good way to store information about engraving on different materials.

Not knowing the specifics of your setup, I cant answer for sure.steve596 wrote:would this work on a 2 axis rig then as I am using an actual laser rig not a 3 axis cnc will the z just be ignored
I use VCarvePro 9.5 to create my drawings and the J-Tech PP that eliminates any Z movement to create gcode.

Re: Laser in Tool Database
I recently updated to VCarvePro v9.512 and it has a 'Laser Cutter' in its definitions.

It's previously been used by Cut2D Laser Desktop (which is cut down version of Cut2D Desktop for lasers) for the laser engraving strategy. It will also be used for the upcoming laser module and picture etching strategy.
