Holloween

Post by highpockets »

Well I had some delays, but I made it on time!

My first lithophane. I happy with how it came out and the lighting....

I combined a couple of my machines on this project.

The lithophane was created and printed on my 3D printer.

The tomestone was designed in Aspire and machined on my CNC.

Nice job. I like the 3D print of the lithophane.

So it's my turn Scott :)

John, your litho looks very good. I'm surprised we don't see any layer effect. Is it a FDM or SLA/ DLP printer? Can we have a close-up of the printed part?

TIA
Best regards

Didier

LGM,

It's a FDM printer. I printed at .2mm layers with a .4 nozzle.

Here's the best close up I could get with my phone. Tried the magnifier on my phone, but with the white it went nuts LOL!

Looks great! How long does it take to 3d print something like this? Curious how it would compare to using cnc.

If I remember correctly it was about 20 hours. The difference between 3D printing and CNC is I don't mind leaving the 3D printer unattended.

Thanks John. pretty good result for a FDM print. I'd never imagine making a litho with it.

That's just because you never searched "3d printer fire"…

Never leave a personal FDM printer unattended. They are in no way industrial machines, but much closer to toys. Toys including a heating source, combustible, and no integrated security.
Best regards

LGM,
Thanks for the advise/warning I've taken steps to reduce the fire issues as much as I can. Feel pretty comfortable leaving it over night. Still don't plan a print for when I'm away from the house though....

Like it John, lighting is always going to be a problem either backlit or edgelit with thinner frames but if you are OK with that sort of effect then it's not really a problem

As for leaving your 3D printer unattended, if you get one of these printer enclosures it should be fine
