FREE Labs Project: Wooden Bow Tie
Hey All,
This month’s Labs project is now available for you to download from your V&Co account: https://release.vectric.com/free-projec ... with-beki/
I show you how to model a wooden bow tie, cutting it on the CNC and how to finish it for wear! This is the perfect quirky swap for a classic silk Bow Tie.
The file itself is a CRV3D File created in Aspire - however I have kindly provided the Bow in a V3M format so that you can bring that into VCarve!
Oh and to model the Bow Tie is fellow Application Engineer Sean (the male voice to the tutorials)
I hope you enjoy this project!
Happy Making!
Beki

Re: FREE Labs Project: Wooden Bow Tie
I could have used this years ago when I worked. I never took the time to learn how to tie a bowtie and this would have solved things for me. You could also resize the bow and make one for the young ladies to put in their hair. Thank you, again, for a great project. I'm installing an 8' grounding rod to be dedicated to my shop's dust collection system before I cut anymore projects. Fun, fun, fun.

Hey Michael, Haha! He does doesn't he! Thank you for your lovely comments
Hey Savannahdan, I have thought of doing that myself when I was creating the project - I'm sure I can come up with a spin off maybe cover it in glitter too!!

Re: FREE Labs Project: Wooden Bow Tie
Thank you Beki for including a file that I can run with VCarve Pro. A few years ago I asked for a similar file for the face in a tree project and was told it would not be done, to my disappointment.

Well, got busy helping a neighbor prepare for a possible hurricane. FixitMike, I checked and the treeface project can be done with VCP8.5. Were you aware of that?

Re: FREE Labs Project: Wooden Bow Tie
All of the carving files that Vectric provides for the project were .crv3d, and I can't load or import them into my VCPro 9.5. The Vectric page says "This free Vectric project requires Aspire 8.5 or higher." . If you can do the project with VCP8.5, please let me know how you got the files into the program.Savannahdan wrote: FixitMike, I checked and the treeface project can be done with VCP8.5. Re: FREE Labs Project: Wooden Bow Tie
The clip is obviously intended to be used an other way: the parts Beki glued are the articulated levers. Which are no more articulated this way of course. You'll have to rely on the elasticity of the clips to pinch the collar.creativescrollworks wrote:Gluing the clip to the bowtie, no longer able to open and close clip. How is it put on??

Re: FREE Labs Project: Wooden Bow Tie
After a little plotting and planning, I decided to use a hook and loop strip. It is passed through a squashed brass tube glued to the back of the tie. I'm ready for Chicago!

Thanks, that's what I figured but thought I might have missed something. However it can be a little difficult getting it on.LittleGreyMan wrote:The clip is obviously intended to be used an other way: the parts Beki glued are the articulated levers. For other bowties I've made, I made this for the back.

I put a piece of wax paper between the "jaws" of the clip and then just epoxied it to the piece.creativescrollworks wrote:Gluing the clip to the bowtie, no longer able to open and close clip. How is it put on??
I shrunk it down and made hair clips, unfortunately my granddaughter swiped the before I got pics taken.
