I liked the OPEN BOOK, but I decided to create my own model in Rhino so I could have the cover separate from the pages. Then I thought the hands would be a nice touch. The cover was made from the material of an old cedar fence I replaced a few years ago. The hands from from a piece of maple.
The picture doesn't do it justice, but from across the room, it looks like a real book.

Hi Gary,
I can think of several ways to make the pages appear as they do (the decorative areas at the bottom of each) - from hand-painting to inkjet or laser printout transfers. What method(s) did you use?

Thanks everybody for the compliments.

The pages was done using mdf, so knowing it would suck in the paint, I first sprayed it with clear lacquer, but still wanted the brownish wood to bleed through, so I hit with with steel wool. Then believe it or not, I stood 2-feet away and mist it with white, then gray primer, then hit it with steel wool again. Touched the flourish with a little red to highlight it, then hit it again with the primers. My painting technique probably could of used some professional help, but I think it turned out okay this time.I can think of several ways to make the pages appear as they do (the decorative areas at the bottom of each) - from hand-painting to inkjet or laser printout transfers.
