some stamps and a medal box

Post by MTSO »

Here are some presentation stamps made for a couple of commanders and a medal box for a person leaving the RNZAF after 37 years.

I used recycled rimu for the medal case, it is quite sappy and has a tearing tendency when machining. the stamps are made from brass and have Malaysian Kauri for the handles which are made in two pieces with a bolt glued between them to hold the brass stamp. The bases for the stamps have an inverse of the model of the handle for positioning.

Those are beautiful. :D

What tools and settings did you use to get such a nice finish on the brass?

Very nice Brian.

I left Auckland for Whangamata a while ago but have a niece whose partner is at Whenuapai - Mike Leonard.

I hope I get to do as good eventually. I am enjoying Vectric projects while I assemble my Shapeoko3.

Mike
The cutting parameters for the brass was 3mm ball nose for the roughing cut feed 300mm min step over .73, 1 mm depth of cut 40min cutting time.
The finishing cut was with a tapered ball nose 1/32" dia 0.005" step over, 15 inches per min. the model thickness is 1.9mm finish cut 1 hr 49mins.
The brass was 3" dia and cut on a milling machine not my cnc router.

Alan
I know Mikey Leonard, I have made a few things that he has wanted for presentos and has scrounged from me.

I forgot to say, the brass stamps were buffed them metal polished and finished with a spray on clear coat to keep the shine.

[Great work... can you tell me, is the RAF Wings model available for download]

The crest is the RNZAF crest

The model is available from cncmilitaryemblems.com

You will find that the RAF, RNZAF, RAAF and RCAF all have different eagles. The RNZAF eagle is the Haast eagle (Harpagornis moorei)
