How do you make a paper drilling template?

Post by Gundawg »

I have been making a line of products for years that I make updated parts for add ons for example. I need to make a template and print it on paper a customer can tape on the product to accurately drill some holes. I think I remember this being a new option in some of the later Aspire releases but I can't find it. Anyone know how to do this? I have added these new holes to all new products I make but I offer these parts to customers who have bought older models of these same products and they need to add these holes.

Thanks Mike

To print something to scale you need to use the Export PDF option. Select all the vectors that you want exported and go to the File Menu and choose Export then PDF.

The PDF file can then be printed to scale using Adobe Reader or other PDF software. You could also email/message the PDF file to the customer for them to print as well.

I use a plotter pen in my CNC to draw templates.

Thanks I will try the PDF option first to see if it works that would be the simplest least expensive method and I like the option of emailing the template in case I forget to put it in the box my memory is not getting better with age.

Draftsight (free) - sketchup(free) - other CAD program - then plot to a printer.

Vectric products are OK CAD, but primarily FANTASTIC "CAM" products. The drawing stuff if used to create vectors for machining, not for CAD kinds of stuff.

The above mentioned free applications would be better for what you want, but Vectric is far better at CAM.

I ended up using a different method for a template after thinking about it one of the parts has the same spacing so I gave directions on how to use it for a template to drill the needed holes. The problem was the template if made from paper would need to be really big so I could not easily print it. I think clamping the part down will be easier.

Thanks Mike

Really big for me means it won't fit on my little printer very well.

Depends on quantity I guess but you could probably get a copy shop or signmaker to print them for you as Gary suggested
