B-Day Plaque
I have a new cousin and thought I would make her a plaque today. Roughed out with a 1/4" ballnose. Finished with 1/16" ballnose with a 8% stepover @ 2.5ips. The whole thing is 8 X 11". That 1/16" ballnose can do wonders on small carvings like this. The carving is about 6" wide 3" high and the detail is very crisp. It will end up being stained and covered with a satin poly. Hope you like it. -AD
Update: Added picture of finished plaque. -AD

Buckle up... it makes it harder for the aliens to suck you out of your car!
You can find that model at http://www.vectorart3d.com/store/index.cfm/Decorative/
Very nice AD! Is the ribbon below flat so you can V carve it easily, or did you have to figure something out to do it?

Oscar, that looks really good (as always) - thanks for sharing. Regarding the banners - on nearly all our models we try to make it so the banners or ribbons are flat to allow you to Vcarve onto them - I am not 100% sure every model with a banner or ribbon is like that, but if you want to double check before you get one then drop me an email jab(at)carve3d(dot)com to ask. Once again thanks for posting Oscar - I hope the new parents like it - there are other desgisn like that one here: http://www.vectorart3d.com/store/index.cfm?q=Toy
Cheers,
James

You bet Paul! I had a 4" wide stick of oak laying around. I cut 3 pieces out of it. Jointed the edges flat and glued them together. Cut the relief and then pocketed the area around it flat. I did profile the relief with an 1/8" bit to get into the tight spots a 1/4" bit can't get into. Then you can V-Carve your text into it. An there ya go.Paul_n wrote:AD....
Great Job !!!
Is that cut from a single piece of wood, or is the relief added to the board?
I have my 'first' Great Grandson, due in a few weeks.... I just might need to
use your idea..... Is that OK ???

Hello connalj,
Vector Art 3D mentioned in this topic has been superseded by Design and Make - http://www.designandmake.com/
The Boy and Girl toy blocks are still available both with and without the banner:
Boy and banner - https://store.designandmake.com/shop/product/8386
Girl and banner - https://store.designandmake.com/shop/product/8390
I hope that this helps.

Re: B-Day Plaque
HI,
Thanks for the reply. Just a couple of questions, because I am so new to the trade:-)
1. How thick was the material when you started?
2. HOw proud are the blocks above the material when you finished?
3. What degree engraving bit did you use for the engraving? It looks like 45 degree but not sure.
Thanks so much.
