Double sided tape?.....
Double sided tape?.....
What is your successes or failures with using double sides tape. We usually apply regular clear tape to the back side of a material and use a spray adhesive to hold parts down. Is double sides tape any better.
What tape have you used and liked?

Or you can use the blue painters tape and super glue method.

I use turners tape. It's made to hold projects on a lathe for turning. Woodcraft has several different kinds of double-sided tape but this one really holds.

Home Depot has a double-sided tape that's labeled as "permanent" (red). Nothing is permanent but it does really hold and somewhat difficult to remove if you use too much. The thickness of the tape may be an issue.

Re: Double sided tape?.....
I have found 2 types of carpet tape in the local big box store. One is a plain vinyl and the other has some type of fiber reinforcement in the tape. The plain vinyl is more temporary and less holding power. I use it for small and/or delicate pieces that might break while prying them off the tape. The stuff with the reinforcement fibers has much more holding power and can withstand a lot more force while routing. Both are sensitive to dust which will rapidly reduce the holding power if allowed before sticking to a backer board.
I've had my fair share of tape failures. Clamps will always be my first choice if I can get them to fit in the project. But sometimes you have no choice. Get your material and backer board as dust free as possible, use lots of tape, make sure they are mated well, reduce ipm speeds to reduce pressure on the tape, and cross your fingers.

Use painters blue tape and thin superglue. Once you try it you won't ever go back to any kind of tape! It just will not let go when force is applied laterally yet, it is easy to remove by lifting vertically and no cleanup.
Re: Double sided tape?.....
Can someone please explain the "blue tape and superglue" technique. I must have missed it.

Re: Double sided tape?.....
I have been using this double sided tape for years on my CNC mill:

Note the photo showing its use with wood is mine.
I have never had a failure to hold or to release. It's great stuff, IMHO.

Re: Double sided tape?.....
We had to hold down buttons/keyrings/crib board covers for production, and eventually wound up using a carrier board of waxed HDO, and then a layer of the Ace hardware tape shown(USE THAT width!! others widths were horrible to get the paper off), and then Duck brand "no residue" Tape on the wood itself.
Smooth waxed carrier HDO kept the carpet tape from sticking, and "no residue" Duck tape had a VERY firm hold, BUT release very cleanly:)
Never had any issues once we finally got the method down, and pieces were from 1"round, to 4X6".

I use Golfers tape. Works great it's basically like double sided masking tape. When I'm really concerned about holding power I use good masking tape along with CA glue.

Thank you, Sylvan356. I assume this works on wood just as well.

I have been using this method for over a year. MDF spoil board, wood and plastic. Never had a failure! Good luck!!!

My preference for double sided tape is golf club grip tape.
It's thin, easy to remove, and grabs very well.
