Quick Release Plate for Tripod

Post by llwood »

This is just a simple practical project. I bought a tripod at a thrift shop for $7, but when I got home, I realized that a part of it was missing. A piece called the quick release plate has the screw which attaches to the camera. Without it, it wasn't usable. I looked online to see if I could find a replacement, but there are so many different shapes and sizes and models that I wasn't sure I would get a correct fit. Also, including shipping, ordering just a quick release plate would cost more than I paid for the tripod, sometimes even more than buying a new one. So I decided to make a new one of wood. As you can see from the pictures, it works quite well. Now, I can quickly release the camera from the tripod for hand-held footage, and quickly put it back in the tripod in the same position.
