Initial bit transitions through material. Ruined.

Post by yamahagrand »

Hi all,

I'm a newbie with a question. I have a Shark HD4 and am running V-Carve Desktop 9.012 and Next Wave CNC stock control software. I've made 3 projects so far. The 2 3D projects have a strange occurrence when the tap files start. I hit the start button and the bit will navigate to 0,0 XY and then it will lower in to the work before traveling to the next XY location where it starts to carve. At that point the bit will raise when necessary to navigate to the next XY location, lower and carve. It works normally at every step of the rest of the project. Whether I'm running the roughing file, finishing file, V-bit engave, etc is irrelevant. The initial move lowers and carves everything in its way until reaches it's starting XY. Any ideas? We purchased the system from Rockler 2 weeks ago and I updated the Vcarve and Next Wave software to latest versions. I have not done a firmware update to Shark controller and am not sure yet if it even has newer firmware available.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Did you reset the "Z" zero for each tool, every time you change a tool?

If not - you do need to do that.

Yes. I zero the Z with a plate each bit change or tap file. It works great except for the first initial transition from XY zero to where the bit is headed to start the first cut. After that all clearances and cuts are perfect.

Hi,

I was having some weird Z travel with my HD4 shortly after purchasing it and it ended up being that I had a few updates I had to do for the pendant and control box. After I sorted through those I have not had any of those issues again. I went through the NextWave customer service and they were very helpful.

Joe, I had already checked those and I double checked. They were as they were supposed to be. Thanks!

Jonathan, I appreciate the info. I'll check the controller and pendant firmware when I get home tonight. Thanks!

I updated the HD4 firmware and that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks everyone!
