Requesting a relieve carving from a photo
I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this.
I have attached a picture that I would like to have converted so I can mill a relief on my CNC. I would like the image to stand proud of the stock. It will be milled in wood and be about 5 inches in a circle.
I am told Aspire is capable of doing this but it is cost prohibitive for me. So, I thought that requesting someone who has the software already might be able to do it for me.
This hopefully would NOT be a one time thing. I would send you a picture the convert and you would charge me a fee.
Right now, I am using other software as my post processor so the file would have to be comparable.
I can go into much more detail if you are interested in doing this. If you need more information, please let me know. At this point I am not sure what is involved in all of this so ask away.
Thank you for your time.
Bill

Yes...I think so. Hard to tell from the picture, but if the image stands proud of the surface we are on the right track.
I would like to test mill it to see how it comes out. I'd also like to get as much detail as possible. What bit would you recommend? I have been using a 1/8" ball end.

That's about as much detail as I can get out of that picture. Let Michael M weigh in on this he is far more talented than myself at base relief models. All I did was run it through the bitmap to component feature in Aspire.
I would use a 16th inch tapered ball nose for this particular cut. That would retain the most detail. What version software are you using? I would not feel right charging you for something that took me five minutes.

Thank you Dwayne. I see your in Machesney Park. I am in Clinton WI.
As for your software question, I am using the latest version of other software and GRBL in my CNC
Can you put that image up as an .stl file?
Well moving forward if this works out, I will have more pictures to convert so a few bucks for a few min.work is ok with me.

Wow....this forum won't let me put the software I use in the post. it changed the name of the software to "other software" in my post!

Your other software forum would likely do the same if you mentioned you use Aspire.huntleybill wrote:Wow....this forum won't let me put the software I use in the post. it changed the name of the software to "other software" in my post!
Anyways hope it works out, might want to look into lithophanes for something usually far more jaw dropping and unique than a carving.
Don't know if your other software is capable of that either.

You may want to take a look at the PDF I did with a Santa picture.
You could use the same techniques.

Re: Requesting a relieve carving from a photo
With Aspire there is some methods to use primitive shaped to make the shape of the dogs head.
Then you can make a "texture" out of the picture and apply the "texture" to the shape you made above.
That is the only method I am aware of to get a really decent model. It would take far more than a few minutes to do that.

oops - I posted before I read Michael's post.
yes yes - follow Michaels instructions - that man KNOWS what he is talking about

Yes...Michaels example is exactly what I want to do
So Micheal, What would you charge to do the pictures I send? I'd like to try one on my CNC and see how it turns out.
