Re: 2 sided drill hole
I'm suspecting perhaps the multi-sided view wasn't on?
Preview all sides switches it on automatically, but If for some reason it wasn't on, and you were previewing each side at a time, it won't be switched automatically. Opening a two-sided project switches that view on also, so could explain the fix after reboot.
Does any of that sound familiar, or are we looking at a subtle bug here? I'm hoping it's the first one

Re: 2 sided drill hole
I'll bet that's it, Mohamed. I haven't had any problems with two-sided preview of cut-through (or anything else related to two-sided previews)
I wish I had thought to mention the multi sided view for him to begin with. I find I can make too many assumptions sometimes.
Thank YOU for thinking of it!

Re: 2 sided drill hole
Hi Gents
I can say with 100% without fail that is was not the multi sided option for the reason that I was using preview both sides all the time I was trying it out
thank you
edit: and the fact that I could clearly see all the cuts both sides as I turned it around side to side

Re: 2 sided drill hole
Ok. Now it's a mystery again.
I was just so sure Mohamed was right about the multi-sided view being turned off initially
I re-read your post describing your on-purpose overcut to view the cut through, then reducing it until it was the desired amount and retain the visibility of the cut through.
Maybe tech support can take a look at the file for further study. But if they can't duplicate the issue, it will still remain a mystery unfortunately

Re: 2 sided drill hole
Should I send the file to someone then?
Trouble is I need to do a new drawing to get the error again because If I am right then now it shows the cut-out ok it will continue to do so, but I will keep playing as I have plenty more to do

It's up to you. If the file is working now, it may not offer any clues as to what happened previously.BernieNUFC wrote:Should I send the file to someone then?

Re: 2 sided drill hole
The support team replied but had not read through the thread therefore the solution was incorrect, so i replied explaining that but have heard nothing back since 4th of august so not sure how long these things take!

Normally, not long. But the support team might have a backlog of questions due to the recent new version release.BernieNUFC wrote:The support team replied but had not read through the thread therefore the solution was incorrect, so i replied explaining that but have heard nothing back since 4th of august so not sure how long these things take!
It's good you've replied, just to make sure you're still in queue.

Re: 2 sided drill hole
Hello Malc,
Please accept our apologies for the delay! I have managed to dig your query out and take a look at the file, and your issue lies with your limit planes component as the height of it is at zero, therefore what you are seeing in your preview is correct.
In order for your tool to cut past zero you need to apply a negative base height (typically the radius of the tool you are using) and this will essentially overcut and will eliminate the cusping effect that may be left around the seam of the model, and will ensure that it cuts through to the other side.
The two sided Marlin Tutorial explains the limit planes at this point here: http://support.vectric.com/tutorials/V9 ... l&time=754 and how to alter the height of the limit plane.
I hope this helps and solves the mysteries! I have e-mailed you directly also with the file for you to look at.
Thanks,
Beki

Hi Beki
I have replied again because it still does the same even when I put in a - number to go past the original cutting depth after copying your file settings too

Re: 2 sided drill hole
Ok good news, Beki found the issue.
Imagine looking side on to a box (square Face) with 6mm sides all round for eg, increase just the bottom edge to 7mm so there is now 2 tapered sides from 6 out to 7mm.
Quote from Beki 'Looking closer at the model itself it looks as though the top part of the shape (that isn't cutting through) is a little thicker than the sides that taper. So in order for this to cut through I have increased the boundary offset of the tool by a smaller amount than you originally had to accommodate for this increase – and so it now it is able to cut through'
The taper is intentional on my part and i post this answer because just maybe somebody else may get this too, i have tried it on the original and new drawing and it works great.
Thank you Vectric particularly Beki
