Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone did this before as I looked all over this site and could not find anything or anyone
Has anyone ever cut or 3D (TILE) their sign or whatever you were working on and than gluing panels together instead of gluing panels than carving?
My cnc is not that big so I was thinking of doing this. I have glued panels together and they come out great but never after carving.
So I was wondering if this is some what easy/semi.
Thank you all for reading and responding on this silly question

Re: cluing panels after cutting
My immediate thought is that it would be next to impossible to stop the glue oozing over the carved face where it joins and making it very hard to apply a finish.
Toolpath tiling is the way to do a carved job that is bigger than your machine although depending on the type of machine it can only be bigger in one axis.

On danger of cutting a board before adding a frame (if that's what you intend to do) is that removing much of a surface opens up the potential for warping due to core moisture release or addition.

Tiling on a NWA shark is not hard, I've done it many times. Just get mount a good edge to your spoilboard, and then cut it so that you are aligned on your Y axis perfectly. Then as mentioned before watch the video. I use the trick done on 2-side machining (1/4" dowels), and it works easy. That way you can glue up, sand, and depending on what you're doing get some of the finish on before you carve.
Good luck!

Thank you Adrian- I was wondering that on 3D's and yes that would be hard.
Highpockets- I will look at that video, I know I seen it a long long timer ago..
4DThinker- That was another thing I was thinking about the not nice warping.
Scubanimal-Ok so what could happen- it would be a waste so--
Thank you all as I will try something smaller so it won't waist too much time and money.
I'll keep you all posted..

Go for it, sometimes, that is your only option. Some folks are very capable, of applying glue with out making a mess.

One project I did, where I sliced the 3-D component, I still got some slight deformities where you could see the joint lines where I glued them together. After sanding and patching with wood filler, a clear coating was out of the question. A darker stain and white wash did however did cover them. http://forum.vectric.com/viewtopic.php? ... le#p182664 Gary
