stacking models

Post by eagle-for »

Hi all, have yet another one that I can't figure out. I am making a rocker for a rocking horse. I am trying to put clipart acanthus leaves on it, and have them where they are partly on top of each other. The issue I am having is that the one in the back overlays the one in the front. I tried to attach a picture but that failed. Help plz

Look at the Vectric tutorials, there are several that address merging clipart, here's one http://support.vectric.com/tutorials/V9 ... ideo_id=49

You need to spend some time with the tutorials, there are several that will help with this task. One way would be to use the tilt & fade within the component properties.

As well as the tutorial John linked to there is a part in the extrude & weave tutorial which covers pretty much what you have asked in your question, from about 27 mins in it copies leaves along a rail but the tutorial is well worth studying from the beginning

John,
Thanks for sending me to the tutorial, while I can shape one model under another, I can't get the model to be on top of the texture. The texture places the basket weave on top of the mode.
What I have tried: playing with the zero plane, selecting the move to back/move to front and putting the basket weave in a dish. The basket weave I'm using is very thin .095 the leaf is .5.
Any suggestions, what I'm doing wrong? I still can't post a picture sorry

John,
The basket weave is a clipart texture...

OK, easy. Add .095 (height of weave) base height to the leaf model(s).

John,
Thank you for your willingness to give me a hand on this...I added .25 to the base of the leaf, checked to move to front, moved basket weave to back. Weave is still on top of the leaf...

If the models you are using are stock Aspire models or not copyrighted, would you please post the file.

If you can't post the file at least post some pictures.

John,
Sorry I can't seem to get a pic to post for me, perhaps I need help there too..
what I have tried yet again:
started a new file; opened a texture that is thin, .003; opened a subject that is .5 thick, placed subject on texture, raised the base height of subject to + .005; which is thicker than the height of texture. Clicked on texture, entered move to back, did the same for subject, but moved to front. Ran finish toolpath, the subject had texture engraved on top of it.

Visited a fellow CNCer's and walked through it with him, same results...stumped

First you don't need to be messing with the 2D Preview->Move to front or back. It doesn't have anything to do with the actual 3D models, just what model is in the front/back on the 2D preview tab.

You still have me a bit confused with the use of "texture", what clipart weave are you using. The actual name of the clipart file...

On the Modeling tab under components do you have two components or one?

If you are using two models, one for the weave and the other for the leaf then make sure the weave at the bottom of the component tree and "Combine Mode" for the leaf(s) are set to "Merge"

As for taking snap shots of your screen and post them on the forum.

Let me guess...
Both components properties are set to "ADD" ??????
If so you'll need to change them to "Merge"
