Very well done. I certainly understand if you don't want to share proprietary secrets but I'd like to know how you made your bronze coating. It looks exceptional.

Hello Phil,
I am afraid that indeed I can not share the formulea.
It is a great finish for all 3D objects and even furniture.
I developed it because not all my clients want regular painted or the more exspensive goldleaf work.

Hi
Can you tell me what kind of foam board you used? Did you route the letters?

You can use any board, wood or plastic. I used plastic.
Yes I routed the letters using Aspire.

Can you post a picture of the backside with your LED lighting? Also post the finished product. Looks great!!

Beautiful work! The coating looks more like a Brass color than Bronze to me. Bronze usually has more of a brownish coloration (due to the copper content). Before you apply the patina solution, the letters appear to be more of a bright gold-ish color - what I would expect from Brass. Whatever the case may be, the lettering looks great!

Hello Dave,
I do not have any photo's of the led's in the back, but I have made these photo's for you.
Hello mtylerfl,
Maybe it does look different, but i can tell you the coating contains 90% of real bronze.
It is all in how I want the patina to be, that changes the colors and relfections.
Bye the way, I also routed the mounting box using Aspire.
First I covered the front of the 4mm thick dibond with a woodgrain vinyl print and then routed the backside with some grooves and a 90degree bit.
Foulded the sides popped them together and there it is.
Great what Aspire can do for you.

Re: Prismatic bronzed led letters
Very nice, I've done a few sign trays with stand off letters but nothing anywhere near as classy as this
Have you used individual LED's or the LED strip you can buy ? I have done a few experiments with the strip type LED's & letters with a curve like your "R" can be a bit of a problem getting the LED strip to lay right
Guessing most of the wiring runs at the back, that's the way I do them anyway

Re: Prismatic bronzed led letters
Hello Martin,
I did them with led modules, these were led65 (waterproof) with 5cm wire between them.
In illustrator i mirrored the text, then i inlined the letters for a maximum thick edge, but still enough space to place the rectangles of the leds.
So the whole led AND THE MOUNTING STUD system was already designed in illustrator before i exported it to Aspire.
Ofcourse this could be done in Aspire also.
Then i made a backside routing job and a frontside routing job.
It was pretty sofisticated (i must say) for a first time.
I do not think a lot of people do it like this yet.
Enough for a three day workshop class

Re: Prismatic bronzed led letters
I can't wait to see what you come up with next after such a fantastic first job The finish on them is stunning & most people would never realise they were made of foam.
I do my letters a similar sort of way, double sided machining with the back of the letters pocketed first for the LED's & then flipped if there is any machining required on the front face. Have experimented with different ways of mounting the LED's & different types. Played about with the LED's facing the backing board as they would normally be with a halo effect & with them facing out to the side to give a different effect, not tried Channel letters where the LED would face the front of the letter with a translucent acrylic face yet though
Do you solder your own LED strings or do you buy them made up in lengths that you can cut as required ??
I started with individual LED holders that I soldered together as required but it was far to time consuming for me.
