Thanks all, Sgt ordered another, this one a similar star emblem personalized with name and rank.

Actually no blue shot, white, green and red. I took the red with a little light on it so the sgt could see it looks decent in a lit room, and also to show the base [kinda looks plain black in the pic, is actually some really nice speckled blue corian].
.5 is really stretching it for a lit base, prefer .75. Slot is .45 down, was worried I might go through. But with accurate Z and level table, shouldn't have worried.

Got another one done, disappointed.

Swirl/drag marks all around the top lettering. Didn't know how bad it was until off the table, could have redid it at another angle and a bit more pressure to reduce the marks. Might have to do another, very close to being a reject.

That looks awesome, very nice work indeed!

Would you mind sharing your drag bit type and settings? What did you mean a combination of drag and pocket?

I've got a 90 and a 60 (supposedly a 120 since the eBay guy thinks 120 is narrower than 90  ) degree bit that I'm anxious to try out and making lots of notes.

Thanks

Not sure what degree bit I use, don't think it really matters since you are not doing any actual cutting of material with a drag bit.

Don't overthink it, pretty simple.
You have the choice of using the quick engrave feature in which case you can select a drag bit for tool then proceed to either do an outline [profile] or a fill [pocket] Crosshatch is an option too, takes more time but sometimes gives a better look.
Experimentation is in order to get best results.

When you use profile or pockets drag bit will not be selectable so chose an engraving bit or vbit for tool. I pretty much go with defaults, once you have created the file and have everything set to go, engrave is the easy part.

don't forget to mirror and flip the vectors, else when you turn it around it will be backwards.
Not always necessary, for instance any text you have to flip, if it is a star or something that looks the same either way, then you don't.

Here is an older thread with lots of experimentation of different cutting strategies in plexi, probably would not have turned up in search since it is not edge lit
