Last Pass Reverse Direction Not Working

Post by CosmosK »

I wanted to use this feature cutting outside a profile. The 2D preview showed the arrows of the final pass going the opposite direction, but when I ran the file, it did not go the opposite direction. I check the G code and indeed the start and end points were not flipped as you'd expect. Is this a bug or a post processor issue? Thanks

Is this the first time you have used this feature ? I don't use it a lot but on the occasions that I have it has worked without any problem

If you can't post the file here for copyright reasons then consider sending it to vectric support for them to look at

I can post it, just on another computer.. will do soon.

I have used it before, but I'm not sure I've been paying all that much attention to see if it actually reverses.

It seems to be a bit quirky and IMO not too useful for 2 reasons:
-It does not really do an additional last pass but rather uses the last layer pass. I.e. if you specify a total depth of 10mm, with 2mm depth of cut and 1 mm allowance, it will do 4 rounds that are 1mm oversize and a final 5th with z=-10mm without the allowance. I think it would be better to go down all the way with allowance and then do a real additional pass on target.

-It would be nice if it could run the additional pass with zero allowance just as a cleanup pass but if that is indeed chosen as zero the checkmark is ignored. However that is a minor issue because one can make the allowance very small like 0.001mm

You could almost make it work how you wanted by editing the passes for the tool you were using, it's extra set up work I know but you could set the last pass to be a very small amount

I have used it a couple of times but most of what I do doesn't really have the need for a feature like this.

I never really use it as doing two toolpaths and using the merge toolpaths to make them into one toolpath is a much more powerful feature with more control.

but if you merge them, how can you ensure the full depth pass goes last not first?

Here is the offending toolpath. I've changed the tap file to be .txt so it will upload. You can see it does not reverse directions for the final pass.

Cosmos...
I opened your file and even the preview shows no reverse of direction. I added a rectangle (closed) vector, selected both, applied your toolpath parameters and it worked as expected (in the preview)

Because the merges respects the toolpath order.

I open the file I posted and this is what I see. Two sets of arrows. You don't get this?

This has not been my experience, but I will try again.

Make sure you have "Merge by Part" checked when doing the merge.
