Here is a clock I have traditionally made using a scroll saw which generally took me about 12 hours from wood prep to final finishing. I converted the design to V-Carve, but still have to do a few small cuts here and there with a small scroll saw blade (0.008") I now have the time down to 4 hours - it's amazing what you can do with V-carve and CNC!
The version show is made from oak with the front face pieces, fence and base made from mahogany.

Re: "Cuckoo" Clock
Hi Charlie,
That looks like it will be a fun project!
I have had "design Cuckoo Clock projects" on my ta-do list for years. I want to make one or more Black Forest versions. What has stopped me cold is finding a Cuckoo Clock mechanism that is good quality, but not too expensive (say, under $50).
I have located one Cuckoo clock movement at klockit.com, but it is about $80, which I assume might be cost prohibitive for a lot of people wanting to do the project themselves. (Maybe I'm wrong on that assumption.)
Do you know of any online source where there is a nice selection of various Cuckoo clock movement styles and prices to choose from? (I want one with the little birdie that comes out the door.)

Re: "Cuckoo" Clock
very nice clock.
I also would be interested in any information on clock movements.
Thanks for sharing your work.

Re: "Cuckoo" Clock
Michael,
I've not been able to find any cheap movements either. The clock posted is not a real cuckoo clock, hence the name in quotes. making it real is definitely on my list of things to do, but like everything else with those aspirations, many other things seem to take priority.
If I do find anything, I will be sure to post it.

Re: "Cuckoo" Clock
Doug,
It's MUCH easier with the CNC router than cutting it by hand on a scroll saw. I will say that there is a bit more satisfaction in the old style, hand-cut approach, but I've had too many people ask for these, so transitioning the design to the CNC made sense.
Thanks again,
Charlie

Re: "Cuckoo" Clock
very cool either way old school or CNC. Unless its a trained eye it is hard to tell the difference. Thanks for sharing it's a definite twist on an old school method brought into the new era.
