Excessive passes on lithophanes

Post by Guy Kass »

Hi-

I was wondering if anyone may be able to offer me some advice.

I am cutting lithophanes (which overall have gone really well quality-wise.)

But that being said, for whatever reason the machine/software/me is making 5 to 6 times the number of passes for every legitimate milling pass.

It cuts, goes to the end of the cut it is on, moves to the next position, goes back and forth 5 or 6 times, and then cuts on the next cut on the final pass. Then repeats...

I am using an X-carve, and Easel to download it to the machine.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Guy

Adjust path depth in tool setting equal or greater than max depth parameters, then it should cut each line in 1 pass

Awesome, thanks.

Way too many settings for me. Getting too old for this stuff I guess.

Thanks for this. Been wondering how to stop the multiple paths.

should note that I meant "pass depth" in the above and not path depth.

Worth noting that max depth determines how far in the bit will cut, you could set 12" in tool settings and it would still only cut as far as max ... Thats why I said "equal or greater", either will do the trick. But anything less than equal will require multiple passes.

Sometimes there is a legit reason for multiple passes, when the image starts deep I have cracked corian before - On the very 1st line the stress is the greatest between tool and material, it is cutting 100% into the material, after than only partially.
could do a roughing or use multiple finish passes but there is an easier and less time consuming work around - Use line angle 45, this will start the run in a corner instead of a straight line, very gradually working the tool into the project.
