This Christian symbol was very popular during the first centuries of Christianity as a means of ID much like the Cross is today. Seeing a picture of a tiled version from that era I thought it would make a nice carving. Anyone who has specific information about the history of that particular piece please share with the rest of us - A search on google turned up lots of pictures of it but no specific background as to where the photo was taken.
Here is a V-Carved version done on a maple board:

Re: ICHTHUS Carving
Just a bit more info on this symbol...the Ancient Greek word for "fish" was used as a Christian symbol because the individual letters were the first letters of each word in the phrase, Jesus Christ God Son Savior, which translates as Jesus Christ Son of God Savior.

Glad to make it available.
The file currently has the the circle at 8.25" diameter. The V tool path generated is 30 degrees but I actually installed a 22.5 degree bit so I got less tear-out for that toolpath. A larger circle could use the 30 degree bit since the individual tiles would be larger. An inlay of walnut in a cherry circle for the text and fish before carving would look nice. I might try that next.
Please post a picture of any carving you do.
