Elephant carving

Post by tmccub530 »

Hi all, I dowloaded a free vector art file which I was able to pull some texture from. I created some vectors from that, added flat shape height, and proceeded to use the sculpting tools and not too long after I had a nice carving. I ended up going back and doing some sculpting and carving some out of cherry. I used a offset roughing with a raster angle of 90 to go with the grain of the wood for finishing. 6mm EM to clear and 1/16" tapered ball from amana tool. Then It was profile cut through with an 1/8" EM. Any tips on CV settings for mach 3 would be helpul by the way, I am rookie cnc machinist. Thanks for any suggestions.

Nicely done!

About those CV settings. . . we all seem to have our own opinion of what is optimum. It takes a bit of "thinking" when looking at them and then doing some experimenting.

Thanks fellas! Thats what I've been reading on the cv settings. Itworks great (for what it is) but shakes a little more now that its not rounding the corners at faster speeds. Maybe i weld a few more supports for the base to keep everything a bit tighter. Thank you

Like that it looks really good

As for cv settings as Ted has said it really is about a bit of trial & error, so many differences from machine to machine that using someone else's settings won't give the best results for your machine unless you got really lucky

:D Thanks Martin, I found out a little late but I had to make a lotus flower instead so Im carving that out now :D I toned down my acceleration and adjusted my cv distance units again. seems a little less shaky. Maybe I tone down my accel a little more.
