Display Case
This is a display case made from Cherry and while most of it has nothing to do with CNC routing, the door uses a pattern I took from Michael Tyler's paradise box that was cut on my Shopbot. The door measured about 5' high and 3' wide. I mentioned this to him at the recent user group meeting and told him I'd post some pics...
The design is from Woodsmith magazine and is unique in that the door slides left to right instead of the typical curio cabinet kind of door that pivots open on a hinge. To enable the side to side movement, a set of heavy duty full extensions drawer hinges are used.

Charlie,
That is beautiful! I love the finish and overall design. I also enjoyed seeing the items inside the case! Thank you very much for sharing the photos. Really nice work on all.

Re: Display Case
Coming from you, that's quite a compliment, thank you, Michael! You should get a lot of the credit though as i did use a basic component of your paradise box. Speaking of that, I'll post some photos of the various paradise box versions I've made as well.

That is an awesome cabinet. I like the sliding door, and the design on the door. I like all the things displayed also. Great work.

Re: Display Case
Dave/Scott - I appreciate the feedback! That was a fun project to make as were all the pieces inside the cabinet. I've definitely learned a lot from the folks on this forum to enhance my skills with the CNC and woodworking in general.

Re: Display Case
Beautiful work, I too like the idea of the sliding door, going to use that on one of my efforts.
I really like the front carving, and that you use it to show off your other nice work!

Re: Display Case
Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback, I appreciate it.
The cabinet is made from cherry and the stain I used is a J.E. Moser aniline dye, #1420 (Dark Wine). I usually apply 2 light mistings of water to cherry before finishing and then sand down with 220/330 grit sandpaper. Then, I spray the dye on with a very light coat and wipe it off after about 30 seconds, let it dry overnight and then apply a second coat, wiping it off after 5 minutes. the finish coat is nothing fancy, just some Minwax satin polycrylic.
To added a more elegant touch, I used 3/16" thick glass with a 1.25" bevel on all the panels and 1/4" glass for the shelves.
I forget if I said so in my original post, but for those interested, the plans are in WoodSmith magazine, #202.
